Hi Guys

Can anyone recommend titles which would help a person better understand the world of watches?

Request left deliberately vague - please recommend anything that you have found useful/interesting.

Thanks

James

Have a search at amazon for a book called The Watch by Gene Stone - has a lot of info and very nice pictures.

I bought it last year when I started to get into watches and have read it cover to cover.

Whilst there also look for Cult Watches - I haven't got this one yet, but will eventually. I am sure that some other will offer some more suggestions.

I also subscribe to a magazine called QP - which is pulished 6 times a year and has a lot of info on new watches, company profiles and auction info.

Go to the websites of IWC, A Lange & Söhne, and Breguet, and order the catalogues.

These three are most the informative and book-like of the ones I've got. The Lange catalogue in particular has little diagrams explaining how various complications and features work.

They're also free, so it's a no-risk proposition.

CommanderJ - did you get the PH gold lamé '10,000 posts and counting' sticker yet?!

There's also some interesting stuff on the web - timezone and watchuseek are good for grazing and following leads and I think TZ has a watch tutorial; Horomundi has 'watch tv' which is also interesting if you want to fill 5 minutes.

Wristwatch annual is also a decent source of info.

More like a catalogue than a book, but has a page or two write up on the history of the brand and then details (pics, sizes, movement etc) on a number of models from the brand.

The Glashutte Original catalogue is also very impressive and worth ordering from their website

Was just about to make this post myself.. It isn't a catalogue, it's a hardback book of dreams!! Amazing to read..

Thanks for the recommendations folks, think I'll order the Bell & Ross catalogue when I get away from this damn hospital..

Thanks for the suggestions, Commanders and others.

I've ordered some catalogues.

Interestingly, the Breguet website won't let me order their catalogue. Prolly 'cause I am way south of the equator. Pesky old world types!
