Fuel Injection...

Then you need to be thinking Megasquirt, unless you are rich. get yourself over to http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk
they can tell you all about it, but for goodness sake do a search on zetec megasquirt first, there will be plenty of material there

I have tried several times to register on locostbuilders but their stupid policy on email addresses that are allowed to register always stopped me (3 seperate addresses, 2 not webmail) and frankly I have got bored of trying...
Can you use the existing throttle body and fuel injection system that is already attached? The ford unit...

Basically I've seen loads of people using cars so I wasn't sure of the reason why as I thought injection was much better.
I have an 1800 zetec engine with the standard fuel injection unit which is installed in the factory, is there any need for me to change this? either to a differnet unit or to a carb setup?
I am a bit new to this so excuse me if I'm asking a really stupid question...

The standard Zetec inlet manifold is a limiting factor in 7 style cars as it's so large; the Mondeo one goes right where the steering colum needs to go on a RHD car and the Escort one runs over the top of the engine where there simply isn't much room (often only a few millimetres between cam cover and bonnet) on 7's.
Depending on the year it may also have the Ford PATS immobiliser built into the ECU which can complicate issues.

Shouldn't stop you reading through the material thoughCan you use the existing throttle body and fuel injection system that is already attached? The ford unit...
and yes, you can use the Ford injection set up.
For more info on Megasquirt have a look here
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/index.htm
and if you can afford the extra cost of Emerald unit referred to above, then that will be a lot easier than using MS

The MegaSquirt and Emerald products are confusing me because they only seem to be an ECU?
You have to make a wiring loom from the original Ford loom, just taking out the stuff you don't need, if you can't grasp the concept leave it to someone who can. The MegaSquirt and Emerald products are confusing me because they only seem to be an ECU?
