Decat Question (1.8, NA, 4Cyl, FIAT)

I've been thinking about getting a decat pipe fitted to my 1.8 FIAT Barchatta. However, I've been reading that this can actually decrease the power out put of the car by lessening the back pressure. The Barchatta runs the exact same engine as the Punto HGT, Variable Valve Timing (second engine revision). Back box is a S/S SuperSprint

Does anyone have advice for me?
