car has been running today but my battery light is on(when revved the light gets brighter but does not go out)

the alternator was working fine before I removed the engine and the light was not on.

wires to the alternator: I have the thick 12v wire from the alternator to the big fuse then onto the starter motor. I have the small black wire from the loom that goes onto the middle nut on the alternator. there is another connection on the alternator with a male spade connector coming from it but i have nothing to go on to this!! should there be?

with the laptop hooked upto it and the car idling, the battery reading was showing 1l.5 to 12v, when revved it did not increase really. is the battery reading on the laptop an output reading from the alternator or is it a input reading from somehwere?

when revved the handbrake light and battery light on the dash get brighter which would suggest the alternator is churning out some current but my battery light is on for some reason.

I will be taking a volt meter with me tomorrow but where do i place the prongs? live terminal on battery or on the alternator?

does my alternator need a refurb? am i missing a wire somewhere? any advice is appreciated

hi

the diode pack in the alternator is wired through the warning bulb in the dash, so if the bulb has gone or this wire has broken somewhere then the alternator won't kick in. The wire runs back to earth through the loom running under the dash and mine broke at a joint about level with the passengers knees

took some time to find I can tell you
