Painting Chrome/Silver Badges?

I want to paint the badges on the car but they have a silver/chrome effect to them. What would be involved in painting them matt black? Would it be a difficult process or a simple sand down before primer and then paint?

Clean them up with degreaser or a mild agent and then use etch primer and top coat
