HELP YET MORE ADVICE NEEDED!.

Hi all,
Things are going from bad to worse. Not only do i need new cams and followers. But on the way to the MOT station the car would only rev to 2200rpm then power would cut of suddenly. will free rev all the way but when in gear power just cuts off at 2200rpm. Any ideas what could be causing this guys?
Thanks in advance for the as always invalueble advice.
now statring to loose faith in the car HELP!

I don't know about tvr's but on one of my previous cars there was a kind of safety thingy in the ECU that would limit the revs if it logged certain problems. The idea being that hopefully it would limit further damage but allow you to get home or to a dealer I suppose.
Probably not much help for you as I never had it happen to see if it worked.
I'm sure there will be a friendly PH'er along shortly to give you some ideas.

when the camshaft is very worn it does;nt have the same ammount of lift and can cause dramatic power drop off, if it will still pull in gear above 2200 rpm but nothing like it should do then its your cam, but if it does;nt pull at all above 2200 rpm it sounds like something else. but just check because if the cam is completely shot it will do that
It's very rare for a cam problem to cause this sort of effect, the rover V8 usually loses it's rearmost lobes, so at worst you would have a 7 cylinder engine, plus lobes don't usually completely destroy themselves in an instant so the power loss effect would creep up on you over a time period, usually severl weeks of TVR type driving.
Also don't forget that even a 7 cylinder TVR engine
would be powerful enough to pull strongly up to the rev limiter in lower gears so I doubt the cam problem personally.
However having said that, I can't offer an explanation.
Around 2-2500 revs is the point at which the fuel cut off on overrun comes back in, so if it's a complete loss of power rather than just an incredibly bad misfire then it could be fuel cut off, this happens whenever the ecu receives a road speed signal, then engine revs are higher than the cut-off threshold and the throttle input to the ecu is under 0.325 - 0.35 volts. If you have a faulty throttle pot it could be fooling the ecu into thinking you're on a closed throttle .. the car will still run on the air flow meter for all other purposes, except you'l lose the rapid throttle angle change acceleration enrichment - so one test for this is if the car badly stutters on rapid opening of the throttle ..?
If that's not it then it's time for some other diagnostic work ..

Thanks jools,
Never thought the two faults were connected. but does feel more like you suggest some sort of sensor or ecu fault. I have had problems with 2 faulty batteries recently so lots of messing about in that department. So my first thoughts were connected to the ecu etc.
Keep recieving very mixed reviews about local repairers'someone has now suggested sfr engineering. any thought?

Hi all,
Just to keep you posted and possibly help some others out there.Picked up my car from v8 devolpments today.(thanks chaps).Who have solved both problems. The first being a few loose wires on the loom close to battery causing car not to rev above 2200rpm.Probarley caused due to me replacing the battery several times over a couple of months.
The second problem was noisey cam followers caused by two worn lobes on the cam shaft. Now replaced with a MC1. Car now feels fantastic. Looking forward to those dry days.
