Headlamp conversion advice wntd 4 those who have DIY'd it
Discussion
I have my pods/lamps/mounting rings in a big box. last night I went to assemble them prior to having them glassed in and noted a problem.
the light pod that is toward the top of the cover sits quite close to the shroud of the whole pod. When I inserted the lamp mounting ring into the pod's hole, the mounting ring's flange was touching the shroud and I dont think the shroud will sit down nicely on the recessed headlamp hole on the car.
has anyone who has done the conversion themselves had this probem? have people trimmed their mount ring flanges for the top lamp or just cut extra fibre glass out of the car? i kow i have trim the headlamp recess on the car but to fit the lamps as they are would require a big cut out at the top.
the bottom lamps and rings fit fine no problems with the pod sitting on the car nicley with that one but i think the top lamp and ring is going to cause problems. ill get some pictures later to explain it better.
I havent fitted them yet as the lights are at my house and car is elsewhere.

cheers al, where did put the lamp adjusters for that light then? one at 3,6 and 9 oclock?
I ended up trimming through the hole for the adjuster to make sure i had clearance.so I only had the 3 to use, as the flat of the mounting ring was at the bottom. (if that makes sense)

i was going to put the flat of the ring toward the top of the pod and trim that as there is less metal. I cant remember the position of the adjuster holes at the moment but obviously the adjuster holes need to be positionned for left/right and vertical movement. so the position of the ring depends on where the adjuster holes need to be.
with my lights i only had 3 adjuster screws for each lamp. do i have 1 for left, 1 for right and one for top. or 1 for top, 1 for bottom and 1 for left or right? im not sure which way around is best for ability to angle the lamp

Don't forget to get the unit itself horizontal! (might sound obvious but mine were both put in cock-eyed at the factory and there isn't much rotational adjustment, I had to modify mine to get the beams horizontal).
In theory you only need 2 adjusters relative to one other fixed point, assuming they aren't in a line with the centre, but having one near 6 o'clock will make adjusting them easier. A trial fit with the lights on would be a good idea, with all the adjustments near the centre of their range.

Im pretty sure that the adjusters go in the x position not the +. as this is the only way the hella text on front works, also the beam pattern.with my lights i only had 3 adjuster screws for each lamp. do i have 1 for left, 1 for right and one for top. or 1 for top, 1 for bottom and 1 for left or right? im not sure which way around is best for ability to angle the lamp
cant quite remember, but you should be able to tell off your lights.

Just to clarify what I said before, the position of the ring affects the rotation of the lamp. If you permanently fix the rings to the pods at a position you think is right for clearance or adjustment, you might find that when you bolt the lamp to the ring, the beam is sloping instead of horizontal. This can be adjusted but not much. So my advice would be to bolt a lamp on, offer it up to the car, switch it on, and rotate the ring and lamp together to get a level beam, and this will tell you how the ring should be orientated in the hole. Once the ring is fixed you're stuffed if it's too far out.Re the adjusters, if you had one at 6 o'clock and one at 9 o'clock, for argument's sake, you can adjust left/right using the 9 and up/down using the 6. They're spring mounted. If they're at 5 and 8 o'clock, up/down is 1 turn of 8 for every 4 turns of 5, and vice versa for left/right. ie, in reference to your quote above, the adjusters don't have to be at any particular orientation.
The exposed rings are unpainted.

To get the rings in the right place I would just tape or hold the pods in place. Set the lights to the centre of the rotational adjustment slot and just check that they're roughly level. Doesn't have to be exact as there is a slot to move them about but as I said my rings were put in at an angle so I assume it's an easy mistake to make.
Maybe they're not sprung (
), I would just use what's in the kit. I haven't done this myself I might add

went to the body shop last night for a progress visit, they have cut out the old headlamp surrounds and what a suprise, the pods i bought do not fit very well, the guy said he has messed with them for one whole day , shaving them and the aperture but they will not sit right, the only option is to shave more of the apeture which could span into the wing.
Im very dissapointed in the quality of fit of the pods.
If someone bought them and intended to stick them in and not smooth them in then they would definetley have a job on their hands, there is no way of getting these to fit without having to shave the car and wreck the paint (for those who just want to inser the pods. Why cant fibreglassers make accurate moulds so they fit with minimal mods.
bottom part of pod sticks out too far at the bottom, if we shave the top it will eat into the top light pod, if we shave the bottom it will eat into the bottom pods, cured apeture.

this is the better fitting side too.
you can just see how far the bottom of the pod sticks out and up from this pic.
