Guys,

Really sorry that my first post is a begging one but we really need some help.

I am one of a a group of eight people going to Le Mans this year (all of us LM virgins!) with White Rabbit Racing, heading down Thursday night and back Monday afternoon.

It was actually proposed as a potential (and Genius!) idea for a stag-do - we've wanted to go to LM for years, and this has provided the perfect excuse to finally get there! So the idea is mooted, we all said in principle it sounded like a great idea so the Best Man went ahead and booked it... Now when When I said all, he didn't actually confirm it with the Groom. Who is a teacher. And cannot get the Friday and Monday off during term-time.

Now after the fact (and after much chastising of the Best Man!) the Groom has spoken to his Head Teacher explaining the situation and has been told he can get one of the days off (i.e. Friday or Monday) as it is examination season, but he cannot have both of them off.

Which leaves us in a bit of a quandary. Or to be exact on a Stag-Do without the Stag...!

The reason for my post is... Is anyone going to Le Mans 2009 passing through the West Midlands (e.g. down the M1 or somewhere close-ish) on Friday 12th June late-afternoon/Evening with an empty seat that they'd be willing to offer? The Groom is house-trained I promise and we'll ensure his fiancee makes sure that he is clean before he meets you! We can collect his bags on Thursday night on our way through (From Up North) so that he'll have no luggage to try and squash in.

Of course splitting the fuel by the extra man would be the least we could do and I think a case of ale would also be in order for any Angel of Mercy.

I know you don't know him from Adam, but we are decent folks I promise. Just crap at organising things!

Thanks

Jon

Has he considered doing it by train? there was a thread on here the other week on which trains to take, might be worth a thought if things get desperate

two of our group are going by train this year and it's not too costly at all.

the other option is to look at heading back on the sunday and blag a lift when there (or book a train). definately best to have the friday in le mans instead of monday.

Why not a cheap return flight from Midlands airport to paris then TGV to Le mans? The main thing is for the Groom to get there as fast as possible? If it was me, I would want to be in Le Mans Friday Morning, soaking up the athomsphere, Drivers Parade in town in the evening. I would also elect to get back Sunday Night!

God I would not want to be those Kids in the class room on a Monday Morning hehe

If he could get to Hull for 6pm Friday night, ther could be a lift in it for him. Bit of a late turn up though. We're on race only this year.

Russell,

Thanks that, that could be really helpful. Need to speak to the Groom and give him some options!!

Guys in general,

I've had a look at train/plane times and this is also a possibility - getting back to East Midlands at 19:15. But what will it be like getting from the track to Le Mans train station for a 16:00 train?

If he wants to see the end of the race? Impossible. Unless he is clear of the track by 1400, chances are he won't make it.

'kin ell Jon. That's a connundrum!

An alternative would be to fly from Stanstead to Tours which takes about an hour and Tour is only 40ks from LM so someone could go pick him up.

Ryanair have flights.....but the timings on Sunday are not ideal. Beggars can't be choosers though I guess.

Outbound Adult 19.99 GBP Fri, 12 Jun 09 FlightFR 8868 11:00 Depart 13:20 Arrive
Inbound Adult 0.79 GBP Sun, 21 Jun 09 FlightFR 8869 13:45 Depart 14:05 Arrive

Failing that I'd have said Eurostar to Paris then TGV to Le Mans. There is a new TGV service that only takes 50 mins I understand.

Definately agree with the previous statements that being there Friday is better than Monday.

One more suggestion...Why doesn't your man just set off as soon as school breaks on the Thursday? If he could get the say, 10pm ferry which should be do-able from the Midlands, then he could be in Le Mans by about 4am. Then kip until 10 assuming you have his tent ready then he's set for the day. The traffic leaving on Sunday is heavy for about 2 hours after the race but then should be ok (apart from the Rouen toll) so he could make it back but just be ready to get home late and be knackered for the week but what the hell!

Good luck.
