Faulty Brake Calipers & front discs required- Z4MC with 20k
Discussion
Had my car collected by BMW emegency services on Friday as the front near side brake caliper was sticking and I ended up with an extremely hot disc.
The car is a May 07 has done 20k miles, never been tracked, is used daily with lots of dual carriage and motorways - so mostly normal driving.
The dealer called me a few minutes ago and told me they have ordered new brake capilers, and my discs were .5mm below minimum and they want £624 to replace them. Also said i need a brake fluid change as the car is 2 years old later this week.
Is this typical to only get 20k from Discs, pads are fine by the way?
Any thoughts on whether this could be linked to the calipers or just a coincidence?
Appreciate your thoughts on the above as the dealers needs me to get back by end of play today.
Cheers

20K for discs is not uncommon, but then it'll depend entirely on what pads are used, and the quality of the discs themselves.
You'll buy OE Spec discs for that car of yours for a lot less than £600 odd, including fitting.
Am I right in presuming these are the original pads and discs fitted in the factory?
If so, and you've only done 20K in two years of ownership, and mainly free-flowing driving, then I'd be pushing for the discs to be replaced too as the calipers may have been binding during that time.
Is that £624 for discs only, or including pads? They ought to be replaced along with discs.
If they refuse the discs under warranty, then tell them to replace the calipers only, and sort the discs and pads out yourself with an indy for a lower £, especially if they say they're fitting them free.
You could buy better discs for about half that price, I suspect.

20k seems extremely short-lived. I've got about 35-40k out of mine, and my car has regularly been to the 'Ring and seen a couple of other trackdays. I've run Pagid RS29 pads, which are meant to be kind to discs, but I still would expect more life out of an OEM setup, especially given the driving you've mentioned.
