Read the pot noodle advert post earlier, and couldn't recall seeing it. Sat and thought for a while and realised, I can't actually recall the last time I saw an advert full stop. Since buying the HD I just don't sit and watch TV - I'll let a program record for a bit, make a coffee then chase play so I can skip the advert breaks (or more often than not the adverts plus the 'recap' or 'still to come' time wasting in most docu's), or I'll record it for later and skip the adverts, or I'll just not watch. One thing I just will not do any more though is sit and watch a program with adverts in.
So - has the trend of making program run time shorter and shorter and squeezing more and more ad's into the same time finally reached a point where it is reaching a smaller audience instead of a bigger one? Is there any chance we'll see decent run times return or even better the regulatory body getting off their arse and insisting that ad times are cut?
Do you watch ad's or not?

I've had a PVR of some sort or another since TiVo launched in the UK. I very rarely watch anything live any more and so ads are nearly always skipped.
ITV are trialling technology which puts ads inside the program to get around this. I'd like to say it will never happen but I actually think it will.

If it does I can quite quickly see the TV being resigned to the bin. I would say just reserved for DVD's but the amount of DVD's that won't let you skip to the menu means I'm getting fed up with those as well!

Same for me, never watch ads.
Though strangely i kind of miss the F1 ones, was a trigger to go fetch a beer / take a pee etc. So why don't i just hit the pause button?
Ad time is getting stupid in many shows, Gadget show with adverts and 'whats next', cut out struggles to make 30 minutes, (usually watched after Eastenders and by last ads back to live running in time for Ashes to Ashes).

Sadly I think this is definitely the way things will go. If you look at the size of some of the dogs already being used (Discovery Turbo for example) - it seams inevitable that commercial channels will eye up the space with an eye to throwing in potentially context sensitive advertising.ITV are trialling technology which puts ads inside the program to get around this. They'll know that the increasing use of PVRs of all flavours mean that the advert seen rate is falling very rapidly and will want to encroach on the main program content to justify their marketing budget spend.
