Right guys, need a bit of advice as not sure how to deal with this.

As some of you may know I had a accident back in december last year where my car unfortunetly got written off frown

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I see now however it is on sale on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-VAUXHALL-MONARO-5-8-V8-...

Now two things really,
1. I know the milage wasn't 28000 miles as it says in the advert, it was over 36000. I have the documents to prove it. Now I understand they may have sourced a new engine for it, but I didn't feel the engine was that badly damaged as it managed to move under it's on power and onto the back of the recovery truck. So I feel he's telling a porkie pie there.

2. Is he duty bound to say that it was an insurance right off or that it was previously involved in an accident?

I wanted to ask you guys on here as I didn't want to find it at a Monaro meet and tell the owner that he bought a wrote off car without knowing it.

So what should I do? Ring him up and ask him a few questions about the car and see if he's truthful or not? And if not report him to someone?

Doesnt it depend what category it was?
How do you know its yours? Same VIN?

If something is dodgy, just email ebay help thingy they will investigate etc.

Is it possible just the reg number has changed hands since yours was written off, ring him and ask if its hpi clear , if he insists it is ask for the chassis number and see if it is yours ( assuming you have a record of your chassis number)

Defo my car as it has all the same mods, and the unique boot spoiler that I had. Plus the numberplate that I really wanted back off the car but couldn't be arsed with the paperwork and delay on getting my insurance pay off.

anyone paying 15.5k for what is effectively an 04 CV8 in todays market can have mine with 26k on the clock, similar cars going for 10-11k tops all the time. looking at his feedback it seems he sells/breaks cars - I'd question him on the "full history" and the mileage - doesnt matter if he swaps the engine the mileage goes with the car I thought?

It's also got the "Upgraded break pack". Sounds interesting.

I'd put a listing on ebay in the same catagory for the sale of information and documents relating the the accident that lead to the writing off of this car.

Just sent him a message asking if it is HPI clear and if he has the invoices to support the FSH.

Maybe the Trading Standards office for the area would be worth a call?

I'm in the damaged repairable business and with the light damage on your car and the type and value of the car its possible the car has been sold by the insurance as "not listed as cat D or C" often happens with cars like this. Basically means when you HPI it its totally clean. However it’s possibly had a millage "correction"? Maybe the last service disappeared!!!!

My ro is nearly repaired so excited like a kid at Christmas!

Red just to let you know, HPI'd your car and it shows up on V-car,
Cat D insurance write off 07/12/08(repairable but insurers decided not to repair)
so no worries on that score but not showing any mileage discrepancy??

Thanks for that Meatloaf, nice to know it's legal on that front.

Now it's just the matter of doctored milage.

I paid less than that for mine nearly 3 years ago with 19k on the clock.
