I've long been a lurker within the forums and have recently built up the courage to throw myself to the mercy of my fellow ph'ers by posting pictures of my current and past cars.

Bit of background info first. Male / 21yo / West Yorkshire / Work for a security company (alarms/cctv ect)

First car - Fork Ka when I passed my test at 17. No pics of this one sorry. It handled well enough and was a good first car looking back. It gave me a good year of further learning and general first car antics. It was written off (not my fault, some un-insured Dreg drove into me and then proceeded to elope, which seems to be common where I live in Bradford)

Second car - Saxo VTR (predictable?) I bought my saxo at around 18/19. It was the newer, facelift (post 2000, I think?) model and was about 90bhp when new. This was plenty for me and I REALLY enjoyed my time with this car. If you can get past the chav image of these cars then they are a very fun little car to drive. I did the things which have become the norm with saxo's.. Lowered Suspension and a few other bits(Keeping as many parts as possible original!! no wolf-race 19'' chrome spinners) and more importantly - learnt a lot in doing so.

The day i bought it:

Soon after:

Not too bad^ in my opinion? tried to keep things halfords-free. Wheels are from a saxo VTS. Lights were changed because I wanted to dabble with HID bulbs and this was not possible with the original saxo headlight fittings.
I very much liked being on the moors in the saxo because it truely did handle like a wasp, esspecially with the wider VTS wheels/Tyres on - Alot of fun for car that cost me 2k!!
However...I soon became annoyed at how much the car was costing me to repair and keep on the road. Having driven company vehicles a lot I had started to crave reliability and rattle-free driving. I sold my saxo for £1700 in June 2008.

I then went without a car for 9 LONG months. This meant walking everywhere including to and from work (6 miles in total, and I live on a Pennine) every day (will not pay fare's to sit next to some pi$$-smelling wierdo on a bus or in a taxi)

At times this was a real pain. All my friends had their nice cars and enjoyed driving them. The difference is that I REFUSE to get a loan or finance. I worked hard and put in a lot of overtime (back when overtime was available!) I'm payed OK for my age and do have some other out-goings. Anyway by March 2009 I had saved over 6k. May not seem much to some M3 driving 12 year old's I've read about on here recently, but I was and am proud of myself =)

Third car -
Bought in March 2009 from Skoda @ Nelson near Burnley for 5.8k, after MUCH searching and viewings of several cars about Yorkshire - including failed trips (car not there when I arrived after seeing on the net - These cars seem to be sought after at the moment)

So Far.. Enjoying it. I like the reliability and solid (German) feel of the car. The company I work for had them as company cars for a few years so I had driven them before and was always impressed. They are fairly quick and handle well and look pretty good IMO.

Now I know the die-hard petrol-heads are not going to take to the fact its a diesel (I understand because I wouldn't have been given a diesease'l at one time!) but from the comparisons's I made when looking for a car - it was by far the best option for me. I wanted a lupo GTI for a while..

Fabia Vrs Diesel, 1.9TDIPD, Insurance 8, Tax £120, 5 doors, 5.5k for a 54plate..

Lupo GTI Petrol, 1.6, insurance App..16, Tax £alot more, 3 doors, upto 7/8k for an equal 54plate..and so on.

I like the vRS alot, and it does get a generally good reaction (although you do get the odd quim in a 1.4 golf telling you how bad skoda's are, no offence towards VW'ers mind) Its also great at the lights - I believe the PH phrase is - Scare's some much more expensive machinary.

Recently (as my money situation stablises) my thoughts have turned to maybe getting something like a 106Rallye as well. Call me crazy but I miss something that the saxo had - The feel of a proper small car, the sound & ability to throw it about, the danger, handling.. the moors.

Am I crazy? or is is the petrol calling me? I don't know. The only thing I can relate it to is like missing a head-case ex. Because she was Filthy!

Your thought's & comments are welcome. I have seen a lot of common-sense throughout the forum's and trust in most of your opinions! Hope I've uploaded the pics correctly and sorry in advance for any poor spelling and/or grammer.

If you can afford it and you want to do it, then do it.

Love the vRS I'd love to have one for a daily driver.

I like the vRS a lot. But, if your VTR hasn't got anything wrong with it, keep it. Enjoy it for as long as it makes sense to do so!

I think part of me just enjoyed having a fairly cheap car that could be used to its full extent.

They are good cars. I had one for 15 months!

Perfect for the motorway or as a daily driver.

I still bang on about it today when I talk about my old one, and that's the handling. Thought it was really disappointing. Other than that it was great!

I think a Jabba rear ARB might have changed my mind on the handling, but I didn't really wanna start playing about with it.
