Thinking of my things to take and remembered the plod was doing people last year for no high visability vests (new French rule) , not sure on the rule, help me out, do you have to have vest for each occupant and has it got to be yellow (some are orange) Judgespeed

I believe Lime or Orange is okay.....BUT it must be CE labled....

Replaces EN471:1994. Garment Types which carry a CE mark (as required by EC Directive 89/686/EEC - Personal Protective Equipment). EN471 are grouped into three classes based on the minimum quantities of fluorescent background and retro-reflective materials to be used. This allows the garments to be worn as an item of PPE (personal protective equipment). Each Class gives the wearer a greater level of conspicuity when seen by the driver of a moving vehicle in both day and night time conditions. High visibility clothing is categorized in 3 classes on the basis of the QUANTITY of materials used (X). In addition High visibility clothing is sub categorized in 2 classes based on the QUALITY of the retroreflective material used (Y). Thus on garments you will see for example: Class 2.2 or 2.1 etc.

REFLECTIVE JACKETS & WARNING TRIANGLES IN FRANCE (30 September)


The French Road Safety Department has confirmed that:

From 1st October 2008 all drivers in France, including drivers of vehicles registered outside of France, must have one warning triangle and one reflective jacket in their vehicle.

This regulation, which we understand does not apply to two and three wheeled vehicles, will be enforced with on-the-spot fines of between €90 and €135.

GB sticker
Compulsory, and failure to comply could result in an on-the-spot fine.
Euro-plates - number plates that include the GB euro-symbol - have been legal since March 2001 and make display of a conventional sticker unnecessary within the EU.

In some countries outside the EU a conventional sticker is required even if you have euro-plates, so it is always safer to display one.

...and 'in the vehicle' means within reach of the cabin - not inside the boot. Here's a useful list borrowed from www.click-parts.co.uk to avoid trouble with BiB:

It is illegal to travel without spare bulbs and fuses for your vehicle.
Unless you have a new style EU number plates then you must have GB sticker on your car.
Warning triangles are to be used in the event of breakdown.
Headlamp Beam converters have to be fitted even if you are driving in daylight.
You must have a florescent jacket in the car (not the boot) for the driver, and each passenger in the car should also have one.
You MUST take photocopies of your insurance, vehicle registration documents, MOT etc. as you may need them at customs, but definitely if you get stopped by the police.
You will need both parts of your driving licence with you.
and for those of you partying on the overnight ferries....
Drink driving limits are 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, not 80 mg as it is in the UK.

The Passengers do not have to have a Hi Vis Vest You can put an extra one in the car if you like but its NOT compulsory

Knowing quite a few of the BIB here I don't think this will be high on their priority list. It is speeding and stupid behaviour they are after. If you fall into this category though better carry a vest and triangle because if you annoy them they'll likely as not find every opportunity to throw the book at you for whatever.
