I have a dirty sensor on my Sony a100 DSLR and have been advised not to do it myself. Is that advice correct?

So, need to find somewhere to take it for a spring clean. I work in the city and live in east Essex, so any recomendations of where I can take it? And roughly what it will cost me?

Thanks.

Try a rocket blower first, it's all I've ever needed.

fixation in vauxhall offer a while-u-wait service. costs about £25 i think. well worth doing. yes you can use a rocket blower etc, but if you're a nervy sort of character then you'll be thinking more about not f-ing it up then actually cleaning it.

Used Fixation as well but for more complex work.

Reception/front desk staff were as rude as anything but techies did a good job

I have given it a go, but doesnt seem to have solved the problem. I carefully lifted the 'mirror' and gave the rocket some, nothing has changed. Not sure if I need to do anything else? Any clues?

Do you mean you physically moved the mirror eek , or did you use the mirror lock up facility?

If you just lifted the mirror by hand, the shutter would possibly still been in place in front of the sensor. I don't know about your particular model of camera, but on mine and lots of others there is a sensor cleaning option in the menu that locks the mirror up and opens the shutter.

Guessing thats a no no then... Best I dig the manual out to see if the camera has the facility mentioned! Cheers.

Its a blower that looks like a rockethehe

Seriously, its a big rubber ball with a nozzel stuck in it.

Yoy point it at the sensor and squeeze the ball which shoots a blast of air at the sensor. Hopefully dislodging any dust.

Personaly I've had mixed results with them, but worth a try as they're cheap n chearful.

A can of compressed air can also do the same job, (but be careful)

compressed air needs great care. If the propellant comes out it will leave marks and the force of the air is too great close held to a sensor.

get Fixation to do it. How do you know you have a dirty sensor? It could be the rear element on the lens.
