Dashboard code e

Hi all

I'm occasionally getting error code E on the dashboard display. I'm really annoying me now so looking to fix it and have found this description :

E - Fuel level sensor not activating zero switch or switch broken

What exactly does this mean in electrical terms ? Usually a fuel sensor generates a varying voltage depending on the fuel level that is displayed by the fuel gauge. I guess the processor on the dashboard does a A/D conversion and displays the results accordingly on the pretty gauge and the digital readout.
Is there a separate fuel tank empty switch fitted to the tank ? If so how does it connect to the dashboard and where exactly is it located (i'm assuming near bottom of fuel tank, hopefully easily accessible and changeable).

I get this all the time - has had no effect on the car. Been through 2 services with v.reputable TVR specialists and both said not to worry.

I have had the level "gubbins" out of the tank and all works to the analogue gauge. I assume the zero level comes from this - easy to get at from top of tank. The digital gauge seems to relay accurate levels too so.....I haven't bothered except when its been really snowy/rainy and I've felt the urge to fiddle.

I did wonder if it was to do with the fuel cut off switch but???

After much lurking on here I thought I'd post something of use!

I'm reliably informed the code e refers to a microswitch in the analogue fuel gauge that tells the gauge where zero is. The pod needs to be rebuilt to rectify this, which is where mine is now!

cheers flash - for now then I'll live with the E !! Out of interest how much is the POD rebuild?

The pod rebuild was estimated at £250 - £300. I've been getting codes E, K and L (to mention a few!) so well overdue for some work. The contact details for the pod repair specialists can be found on here but I chose to have my local specialist remove it and send it off so I'm sure they've added 'value' for themselves! Hopefully getting the car back on Friday so will let you know the true cost.

Yes its the microswitches on the little metal shutters for fuel & temp guages that cause the error code.

Comes up at least once or twice every journey but does not affect the accuracy of the analogue or digital guages. So far been down as low as 2litres of fuel showing without it running out so I'm happy to put up with it until it needs the screen or something replacing. Guess it could be sorted with electrical contact cleaner if you had the time & patience to take it apart.

Interesting...if its only something wrong with the pod display, i'll get my test gear out...i design these things for a living...
