Does anyone have any advice on buying privately through this site. The seller is based in the US, has been on the Forum for 2 years and appears to have sold a few watches without being called out as a fraudster...

Not sure on the safest way to part with a few thousand and not end up with a fake etc...

Rob,

I think the golden rule is 'Buy the seller, not the watch'. If he's been on there for a while, several trades and has a good helpful post record behind them you shouldn't have any problems. I bought a Breitling Titanium bracelet from a US Watchuseek member without any issues at all, we even managed to get it marked as a gift with low value so no duty.

^^^^ Had a similar experience when buying a £400 Fortis - no probls & no customs.
I also got my Aquatimer from a Watchuseek member - although we did that via a face to face meeting in London
