At 4000/4250rpm a Tamora with standard system is less than 98db.
The Blueflame backbox (one of the quieter ones..) is only103db @ 4000 & it comes with insertable "db killers" for trackdays
de-catted about 108 @ iirc but peaks at 123db.
Biff's Cerb was measured at 133- the loudest I have heard....

I was slightly alarmed to find my more or less standard S3 returned nearly 104dB in a recent noise test. Is there any TVR that will pass the 98dB test at Bedford without extra baffles?
How was the test carried out?I used to have a couple of TL1000S bikes that registered anything from 98 to 115 depending on engine temp, where the guy put the mic and where the bikes were stood. (98 was in the middle of a field with the mic upwind so was allowed to play that day - 115 in an enclosed area baking hot day and the guy all but stuck the mic up the end can)

However, when we did a DIY test on the same car at the last PH North London meet, guessing as close to 1 metre at 45 degrees as we could it only came out at something like 98.
At least one of those readings is way off (bearing in mind decibles are a logarithmic scale).
I normally hit 102-103dB on the static test at Bedford, but have always persuaded them to let me try it on track without silencers (although I do bring them just in case!). Have not triggered the drive-by noise limits in four visits...
The drive-bys are the important ones, and they're located in hard acceleration areas - remember that you've got loads of torque, so you are likely to be at a low rev count where other marques would be screaming at 5k+
Other tracks only do a static test, in which case your only option is silencers if you have anything but a standard exhaust setup. It's always prudent to take a set of bolt-on silencers to track days in case there's an overly hard-line official present - they're available from a few sources for ~£100, and dropped me to 97dB for the static test.

Gents - any thoughts on the use of extra bolt-on silencers? Are there any downsides to it?
Look like something I'd definitely have to invest in if I used the car on track more.
I've not got any numbers for mine but it's a little on the loud side. Look like something I'd definitely have to invest in if I used the car on track more.

Trackdays are a non-starter without my cans on the back....

...only downside is the looks really, I'd not dream of using them on the road but the dB level they reduce my car by is amazing and I've not seen any power reduction issues.

The only downside on the bolt-on cans is that if you go to the Nurburgring they don't like them as they stick out beyond the bumper. You'll then get noise tested at 4,000 rpm at a distance of about an inch !!Look like something I'd definitely have to invest in if I used the car on track more.
You can buy mufflers to put up the pipes from several sources; I've reverted to these now.
