For those that use aeroscreens and the like, does anyone know of a goggle that has reactive lenses, without the need to buy a dark pair and a clear pair. The technology exists for normal glasses so does anyone have links to a site for these.

Cheers

I dont know whether it has been done but you could ask mike dixon of UK sportseyewear.

You could possible use his glasses that have a prescription insert with the strap put clear lenses in the frames and have reaction lenses fitted in the insert. Wont be cheap tho

There are some very stylish safety glasses around which are so cheap buying two pairs is not a problem.

Safety glasses are close fitting, UV rated and impact rated. Aside from the silly name, I've found these UVEX Predators very good. They come in three tints (clear, indoor/outdoor, blue mirror). You can get all three for less than half the price of a pair of name-brand sunglasses.

I use Wiley XL-1s with reactive lenses; not strictly-speaking goggles, but they do make those too.

Thanks again, shall look at those also. I have been given a link, which although not a goggle does give me the day.night option. Mainly for use on motorcycles and extreme sports. - pricey though at 50 USD.

As most of you will already know that own a screenless car its the wind that gets around the glasses thats annoying (your eyes water etc etc), hence why I wanted goggles. Will check out all your recommendations.

I can vouch for the dixons glasses for wind protection. They wrap around and they have a gasket on the inside they gives a good seal but it is also vented to allow a passage of air across the inside of the lens to stop them fogging.

And before anyone says it no I dont work for Mike dixon Im just very impressed with his product.

If you get the TEPS system then you get an elasticated strap that can replace the arms with and turn the glasses into goggles

Thanks Vindi, just going to place an order. I have gone for the "Aero-5 RX goggle with interchangeable lenses & RX insert" which satisfies my requirements perfectly and at a reasonable price given what I have looked at today.

Wiley X are worth looking at but are quite expensive. Some of their stuff comes with ballistic spec lenses so you know you won't get a stone through the eye. There's a picture on their site somewhere of a guy who was in Afghanistan when an IED went off right by him and he had "panda eyes" where shrapnel hadn't hit him.

The dixons come with ballistic interchangeable lenses.

They also do a Mil spec set but the main difference is the gasket the lenses for the Mil Spec are the same ones as fitted to the standard glasses

Personally I think you're taking a massive risk if you don't wear a lid with an aero screen - Just my opinion obviously.

The reason - having had a helmet cracked by a stone thrown up from a passing lorry, I would strongly advise wearing a lid. I would not have been in a position to continue driving if that had been my forehead. I've also lost count of the number of bumbles/wasps that died on the top of my lid.

Well I guess this is a complete separate thread, but I only use a helmet for distances over say 10 miles, or to be more accurate only when I am going for a blat. Odd you may think, well no not really sometimes I just pop up to the shops or maybe visit a local friend. The speeds involved are low and lorries dont use any of the roads I would use. Yes if I was to go down the M6 then I would use a helmet. I wonder how many owners of trikes wear a helmet?, afterall that was the only way you could `get away` without wearing one on a bike. What your saying is correct, but there is nothing like the wind in your hair on a nice summers evening, though they are sadly few and far between these days. And the risk side of it, well we all take a risk whenever we take to the roads, helmet or otherwise. I was run off the road just the other month, some kn*b head took the corner too fast in his `souped`up peugeot and just f**ked off, and that was at less than 30mph. You takes ya chances as the saying goes.

Never ridden a trike, but a couple of chaps in my local who do have them say they don't tend to get hit by stones (due to being higher), but they do collect flies a lot.

As you say, personal preference. Having seen the state of my lid though (TBH I was probably only doing 50mph) after the stone hit it, I wore mine for pretty much every journey - but then virtually every journey was for a blat.

Well they turned up this morning by postman (not what I had paid for - said parcel post in the options?) anyway they look fancy, with all the removable lenses. And thats where the problem lies, not a good design for the securing of the lense, I have a fairly small head and the curve of the google does made the lense `pop` out of its two very small locating lugs. Twice whilst driving this afternoon did the lense fall out. That needs to be addressed if the company are looking in here.

Apart from that issue, yes they are very good, kept all the wind out and were comfortable and dont make you look like you are just about to take off in a Spitfire.

LOL, yeah I am coming round to that idea now, just making a foam holder at the moment for it, just enough room in the pass footwell for storeage, trouble is I feel a right di*k wearing a helmet in a car on the public road, but thats my problem.Got to go out tomz to help out a mate, so will give it a try.

Glad you were alright btw.

Try a Helmet net - most bike (motor) shops sell them. They have about 8 bungie hooks on the outer endges so you can secure the lid onto just about any flat surface so long as it has some holes or D rings on it. Mine would fit between the seats above the tranny tunnel.

So let me just get this straight; you like to put your helmet in a tranny's tunnel? evil
