New exhaust + repairs to frame
Discussion
Nice.
Without trying to high jack the thread but its kind of on the same lines. The 3ltr exhaust bolts together using the triangular shapped gaskets used in a ford transit 80-100.
Apparently this shape is on the down pipe to cat on the transit but they are different over the range of models like petrol diesel etc. Anyone know more info?

It's been away over a month now but the job just grew like Topsy. The amount of corroded frame was a real bummer and I hadn't really thought it was going to need so much cutting out. Over the years, I thought it was just my hearing that was going because I couldn't hear the 'whoosh' from behind my head that was there when I bought it. Turned out that wastegates were seized open, manifolds were cracked, etc. Normal service should be resumed shortly - must be pretty obvious how excited I'm getting now: rabbiting away on here instead of getting some invoices out!
And another photo.....

Leon is of course wrong. Any water in the chassis rails when it was made, providing it was totally sealed, would corrode away til it was dry or had no more O2 available, i.e. it would get to a point and then cease. The sort of rot you are describing needs ongoing water and air exposure. The drilled and screwed aluminium floorpan must be the culprit with dozens of holes drilled into the chassis rails all letting moisture in.
I have a major concern about Nobles doing what Vitesses used to do.
Anyone else seen any significant rust in their car chassis?

mine is rust free so far (never goes out in the rain), but i have seen some shocking ones
the story i heard is the factory left some frames out in the rain before they were painted
i plan to drill my chassis and waxoil when i get time
i waxoiled my fiesta when it was nearly new and it goes out in all weather, its nearly 20 years old and never has it needed any welding etc, i believe that waxoil does work if you use it early on

Over here in the States, these are standard 2 1/2" (I think that was the pipe size, but I'm having a senior moment and can't remember for certain...) 3-bolt exhaust flange gaskets, available at any auto parts store. If you can find them, use the solid copper or aluminum gaskets - they last much, much, much longer than the pressed fiber ones, even the fiber ones with the sheet metal centers.Apparently this shape is on the down pipe to cat on the transit but they are different over the range of models like petrol diesel etc. Anyone know more info?
