I don't really eat baked beans, in fact I can't really remember the last time I did.

What I do remember is that when I did cook them, I emptied a tin into a pan and a few minutes later they were ready. It wasn't a tough or lengthy process, so why do I keep seeing ads for microwave beans?

FFS, is it really quicker than a pan? Do we need to eat beans any faster? Does everything have to be made simple (when it already was)? No wonder not many youngsters know how to cook if tinned beans are taxing to them.

Not sure why it annoys me, but it does and i'm sure there are other examples too.

Just wanted to get that off my chest smile

Ah but after you cook beans in a pan, you have to wash said pan. With microwave beans you just throw the 'pan' away, makes it even easier smile

Really?

What do you microwave the beans in, that is disposable then?

In a plate, which you would use anyway to eat the beans, therefore one dish to wash not two. (Unless you eat out of a pan)

Microwave beans?? how are they different to normal beans? I always warm beans in the microwave, 40secs and done. Much easier and quicker then a pan.

I can't believe that comment, and i'm not meaning to be offensive in any way.

Are we talking about the 'Snap Pot' beans here?

In which case you throw away the container that it's packaged in. It also means you don't have to eat 400g of beans in one sitting. hehe

Bean thread BRILLENT....

I for one have no problem with beans in either to be honest, i do like the idea of the snack pot but HOW MUCH MORE DO THEY WANT TO CHARGE just for the 30 seconds it might save you in washing up!

I like them over cooked so they mash together and the sauce dries out a bit. Like mushy peas.

Yes, yes & thrice yes. Watery beans should be outlawed.

There is a degree of sense to them as with a large can of beans you don't want the whole can in one sitting. So you use half the can and then put the rest in the fridge, which you then forget about until they try and crawl out a few weeks later.

You could of course buy the smaller can of beans, but they are more then twice as expensive, which I guess the snap pots are as well...

What price convenience? hehe

Anyone would think regular tins of beans had been outlawed and these were compulsory.

...and if you store them in a microwaveable container you can cook the second installment straight from the fridge, simples.

One week pan, the next microwave, let no-one say I'm not even handed.

Post scriptum - and while we're talking beans what is your favourite?
My vote goes for the long deceased original Cross & Blackwell. It was junked IIRC due to too much sugar and salt. When it returned (more) recently it had been to the health farm and wasn't the same. It has then since morphed into Branston which is my current preference.
