Has anyone here competed in the Tasmin Challenge series (or whatever it's now called)?

Curious to see whether an ex race car from this series might form the source of an affordable track toy without leaving the TVR fold. smile

I'm currently racing.

Also there still a few X Challenge cars for sale, problem is getting a V5 for them (could be a lot of work to get them back to road legal, plus with a full cage its not ideal to use them without a crash helmet, so unless you want to trailer it to the track it may provide problematic

Thanks will do.

Whatever I get the issue of a roll cage is a tricky one. I think if I was heading sideways towards a gravel trap (with a helmet on) I'd quite want one, but I understand people's reservations about using them on the road. I guess the question is whether you're more likely to crash on the track or on the way there! Hopefully neither, but you get the point...

True, you could always wear a cycle helmet and put loads of padding on the cage for when on the road, may look a bit but less odd than a full helmet.
Even with a small bump, you could kill yourself or do serious damage if your head hits the cage.

Just curious.... Is the Tasmin challenge open to all wedges or only the original Tasmin FHC?

I find if I drive around with a crash helmet on, people tend to keep out of my way, so the opportunity for crashing is much diminished ;^)

There is no Tasmin challenge any more just the TVR European Challenge http://www.tvrchampionship.co.uk

Any TVR is allowed to take part as long as it pass all the FIA blue book rules. and you run Dunlop tyres.

Without wishing to get gruesome has anyone put this to the test?

Looking into track cars I'm hearing this a lot, but in some cars with a full harness and a high back seat it must be quite difficult to actually reach the cage? Granted some installations will make it all too easy to do so, but aren't the cages sometimes too far up or too far back for this to happen? Presumably cars like the 911 GT3 and the Megane R26R don't have these problems or they'd never be sold by mainstream manufacturers?

Otherwise - cycle helmets aside - it raises an interesting dilema. As an occasional road vehicle that's mostly used on the track are you more at risk from having a roll bar present and hitting it in a road-shunt or not having one and rolling the car on the track?

If you had used a full harness then it would not be a problem,
But being road legal you may have to have the normal seatbelt also, and if your on a quick trip, you may start using it as it's easier than the full harness.
A full harness is only going to work if tight, this may not allow you to reach the radio etc. so you could not want to use it for long trips etc.
