Moisture in Compressor airlines??
Discussion
Basically i eventually got around to buying the correct, well better equipment to spray a Renault 5 Le Car turbo im restoring. After years of spraying panels, even my friends whole car with tins made up by local paint store and getting great results i decided to do the right thing. It's an SIP T3 150 compressor i bought, along with good guns etc.Problem is after buying all this i popped into my local compressor store for some airline and left feeling gutted and put off using a compressor at all!Basically he told me there is no way you'll ever get moisture out of the airlines, which is obviously important with painting.I feel like i don't want to risk using the sodding thing now.I've bought an inline filter for the moisture but should i fit two?Is that overkill?Anyone any tips to avoid water in the lines? Also is it easier to use the coiled air lines or just a plain hose? Thanks!
Find another shop, preferably one with intelligent staff.
Use a water separator in the system & you shouldn't have any problems. You may be surprised just how much water it collects though! Some moisture will get through, but not in sufficient quantity to make any difference.
Lots of different ones to choose from eg

Avoid the curly airlines, fine for blowing up tyres but not for much else they simply don't allow enough volume of air to flow. Get a normal airline, mine is 8mm bore & runs sprayguns & rattle guns with no problem. Put the rattle gun on a curly & it's a waste of time

depending on the size of your compresoer you shouldnt be getting that much moistere .
if its small your going to get it no matter what , i would recomend something atleast 10-12cfm atleast for spraying anything of size .
i use a devlbliss gun which i prefer to others on the market , tried varios other expensive guns at a couple of hundred each it all depends on what suits your style.
but then again i can get just as good finish out primer gun with 1.4tip which cost 6 times less .
you can get inline moisture traps but if compresoer is to small you wont stop it , you will still get a good finish but you will have to put the work in with wet and dry .
a good sized compresoer is going to be as big as the car a small 100quid compresoer just wont cut the mustard .

I SMART repair for a living. The compressor I've used for the last 6 years is a 2HP with 50 litre tank. HVLP guns, including full size with 1.4 tip.
I've done whole sides with it & bonnets & roofs.
Never had a problem with water in the line.
Be careful if you go to 3hp compressors as few are intended to run off a normal 13amp socket. A colleague of mine has just gone down that route after his previous direct drive one died & most of the 3hp required a 20amp fused supply. They are single phase so 240v. If you go bigger you get into the realms of 3phase. He finally bought an ABAC 3hp belt drive which is intended to run off 13amps & very nice it is too!
