I've got an E61 55 reg with a bluetooth phone connection. Phone wise this has always worked very well (with varying address book integration depending on the phone model).

It struck me that it must be possible to use the same connection to play music stored on the phone through the bluetooth connection as if it were a bluetooth headset. Has anyone tried this, or got it to work, or is this just not possible?

Thanks in advance

I've got a 05 X3 and a Blackberry storm and I haven't been able to pair them to play music.

Although they do pair for phone calls with my contacts coming up on the stereo's screen(business CD).

Streaming of music and pairing for phone calls are two different bits of tech.

I think it's called A2DP, you can geek up on it here.

I've got a Parrot MK...sonthing or other in the E39 and that has A2DP to streams music off my N95. But, it doesn't use any of the car's headunit for amplification, it has a blue box that plugs into the speaker circuit. When it detects your A2DP signal it bypasses the headunit completely and sends the music direct to the speaker. Volume is controlled via the little Parrot control wheel jobby.

It's not as good as sending a source to the headunit but it's 98% there and they only cost about 80 quid.

As mentioned, it needs to be A2DP otherwise its only mono I think, and very poor sound quality. You can get A2DP bluetooth receivers that you can plug into the 3.5mm jack socket to do this though, assuming your car has one, then it would all play through the car's headunit.

I was looking at getting this, but havent got round to making the purchase yet:

You can pick them up for about £40 and include a 12v fag lighter power supply so it could be left in the car, even switched on all the time.
