Edit - from your web site ,one poster on there will probably be able to quote you (and his place is in Northampton)-look at unit 18 services (I think)

Ask four different people, get four different answers!

5 years or 80 is what we usually suggest.

Going on what was suggested for what is basicly 3/4 of the same engine - 3 cyl 1422 vs 4 cyl 1998 -that's why I threw in link ( to VAG techy heavy site)- trouble is that VAG keep changing their minds on what is recommended .

Official change is 75K or 5 years.

Some dealers do the water pump regardless when the cam belt is changed. We always advise it but customers have the choice.

These currently a special offer £329 inc price, All Uk dealers must follow this on cars up to 2.0l over 3 years old. That price doesnt include the water pump though.

Is that only on AUDI - or on VAG range ,do you know - my little 04 1.4TDi has 51k ,so at at around 360 for belt+water pump looking good - best I've seen for the two was 350 at the place Ive mentioned -little indie ,with VAG trained guys .Even the interim service at local VW independant was over 100

Currently it is only Audi, you could ring your local Audi centre see if they are happy to work on a VW, we do from time to time.

Or you could email your local VW dealer and point out the Audi link, see if they will price match.

My understanding is that it makes financial sense -as in that the cost of a new pump is minimal compared to the work to get to it -which is almost equal to the work to change the belt .

Done 145K so far on my original water pump. Apparently the impellers on them used to break up but I suspect any that are going to have done by now, if you see what I mean.
