Alarm/immobiliser
Discussion
I have replaced all the functions of the original alarm/immobiliser with Viper system with proximity, door popping etc. Anyone know if there is any way of removing the original system completely as my key fob is pretty knackered and every so often like after a flat battery or disconnection the old alarm re-activates and I have to stand around listening to it while prodding the fob with a bit of wire to turn it off. Particularly annoying is that sticking the over ride key in the hole under the radio does not reset the alarm, which I thought was the whole point of the damn thing.
PM me if you have any specific ideas, probably not a suitable subject for public consumption.

The problem is that the box in the boot that controls the windows and doors is run off the original meta alarm and sends a particular signal to the box for arming and unarming!!
If your that fussy about it just unplug the alarm box and see what happens, i dont think am allowed to say where its situated so you'l just have to have a wee look, try tracing the wires back from the windows and door control box :-)

How have you fitted your new system if the old one is still installed?
As has been said the META system sends a signal to the door/window locking unit.
Carl can integrate this into a newer alarm such that it will still close the windows automatically when you arm/lock the car. Problem is your a bit far away from him being up North.
I do understand how you feel about wanting to do it yourself, but one of the problems is none of us want to publicly tell you how to overcome the existing security system.
It is not easy to do in any place, as I have been delving into mine, but without any spares I will probably end up with Carl fitting a new system.
Another problem, is that our Insurance expects there to be a Cat 1 immobiliser fitted to the car, which can only be certified by an approved installer.

If you can’t fix it with his advice, you may decide to give him the work based on what a sound chap he was by taking the time to talk you through it originally.
You have been given the best advice the forum can muster – only you can decide if you’re going to take it.

The new system is already integrated into the door and window system, it all works perfectly provided I just just disarm the old system and never re-arm it. The problem I have is that the old one re-arms when I reconnect the battery or if it goes flat. Looking at the wiring diagram it does not look like rocket science to remove the old alarm ECU and leave the immobiliser in place. I will have a little experiment with it and see where I get. Pretty sure I can generate and "alarm inactive" output from the viper to tell the immobiliser to deactivate. That seems to be how the current system works, which actually seems a bit weak as far as security goes. I won't go into details but I reckon there would be change out of 10 minutes to get round it.How have you fitted your new system if the old one is still installed?

I'm quite sure Carl is a great bloke but I never feel comfortable taking up a guys time so he can share his hard earned knowledge with me as a freebee. He runs a business and I know just how I react when someone takes up my time to get me to tell them how to do what I do for a living. Not so bad if it's a regular customer who just needs a bit of help but Mr X calling at random and asking me how to set up an international computer network would get a short and time honoured answer.
Well, if I was going to do this, I'd work out where the alarm was being powered from, and disconnect it, leaving the whole alarm and wiring in place. Make sure everything still works as it should, whilst also making sure you can reconnect the META alarm if you need to. If all goes well then take the META alarm out in stages, doubling checking everything was still working as it should as I went.

They shouldn't as the Cerbera alarm is not technically calssed as Cat 1 due to the way it's fitted.Steve
Apologies I meant to say Cat 2 Immobiliser.
I have the original TVR "To whom it may concern" document, some of which reads as follows...
"The META M99T alarm system is of the type Thatcham approved and the immobiliser, on its own, has a Thatcham category 2 approval as a stand alone immobilities, approval number TEI 199/0895".
Do you know what is wrong with the installation to stop the combined system being a Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser? Was it just because the bonnet had no switch?

I have been trying to get a copy of the circuit myself, but as probably expected a bit rare!
If you can see the M36T immobiliser box, then the wiring to it has circuits that are broken when the immobiliser is activated.
With a bit of effort you should be able to work out which is which. But a search on this form should bring up some info, as people have bypassed the immobiliser when it has failed to get their cars running. Carl might be willing to tell which does which if you ring him?
Good luck, and if you do manage to remove it, please let me know if you wish to sell the old bits as I'm after the siren unit in particular.
For info - I found the M36T on the Thatcham web site and if it was fitted before October 1998 it still qualifies as meeting Cat2 standard.

Meta Spares?
I've recently purchased the same alarm along with the original mes central locking kit and have wired it in myself, personally I think its a resonable unit. Partly why I opted for it is because of researching and hearing it was used on TVR's, Lotus's and the Vx220 I thought it must be alright for my Ginetta.
Have found http://abacuscaralarms.co.uk/ very useful, all spares are available and recoding can be done via them.

my car has been upgraded from the meta 1 to the meta 2 alarm system but for some reason the siren was not upgraded so this does not scream, but the lights flash as they should etc.
I have spoken to Mr baker (about a year ago) and he said I need a the mt2 siren to match the other units but I will also need the wiring harness as the old type plug wont fit.
The siren is about £100 and the loom is £30/40, they seem a bit deer to me so i am wondering?.
Does anyone know if i can just fit any siren to it. surely its just a siren and nothing more. just 2 or 3 wires from it. I have a battery back up siren off ebay that i bought many moons ago, i was going to rig this up and test it but i dont want to fry the alarm, any genius' out there who would know?

Same here mine does not sound/bleep with the remote but does flash the hazards. I have got an instruction manual but says nothing about adding a second siren (standard has 4 connections).
You could however use the horn as part of the alarm/siren I sometimes wonder whether this is how you get the bleep. But then again my father seems to think you can't have bleeps anymore due to some stupid nuisance law.
Another option is ofcourse having an indicator/led wired up it came with my kit basically alittle round unit that sits up underneath the windscreen that flashes constantly and goes to a solid state when arming/disarming. Its not drilled in, just stuck ontop and cable fed where ever.

Vat included just got postage at £1.50
