Any Yorkshire contingent for FIA European Drag Racing Championship Round 1 this weekend?
Scott? Phil? anyone???

As usual we'll be there for four days and it looks as if for once the weather is on our side! Nice warm sticky track and judging by the reports so far there might even be some nice dense air too.

9 Top Fuelers for an 8 car field
10 Top Methanol Dragsters for an 8 car field
21 ProMods for a 16 car field

In fact full fields or more in all pro classes!
And everyone was worried about the credit crunch. I'd say drag racing was doing ok wink

Girlfriend and I are off to this on Monday. Been talking about going to Santa Pod for about 15 years (and never made it) so really excited. If you're a regular, perhaps you could help show us what it's all about...?

Snap Andy!
I'm going to head down on Monday unless it's pouring down. I went down to my first Santa Pod event a few months back and it was superb. Really looking forward to this weekend!

Hi Ben!

Let me know if you want to convoy down again. We're going to head off early again to get there in time to have a wander and get a feel for the place. Drop me an email if you want to meet at Leicester Forest East as per the GTs. How's the Clio by the way? Hope you're enjoying it.

Absolutely, and the if anyone else would like to join us they're more than welcome.

Mrs Mighty and I will be on the bank all weekend... oh and reading your post in the drag forum, we're both short-arses too but its not a problem even when its busy as far as we're concerned. The atmosphere on the bank is far greater than the grandstands can muster, and its where you'll find most of the regulars throughout the weekend.

We usually sit pretty much opposite the 330 foot timing mirrors. (Thats obviously 1/4 of the length of the quarter mile) and you'll see the orange foam block in the centre of the track. 330ft is the first one you'll see after the startline. There's a good bunch of us that all meet up at the track for most events, and a lot of the names you may have seen in drag forum. Most have been involved in the sport in different capacities over the years, so anything you want to know, one of us will have an answer for and you'd be very welcome to join us, the more the merrier. There's usually spare chairs and rugs amonst us for a place to park your bum, but I'd bring something to sit on if you have it available.

If the weather is good and you're dead set on going up for eliminations day on monday then I would suggest getting an early start and aiming to be at the track for 9:30. Any later and you could be queuing to get in right through the first round and you don't want to miss it.

PS: Andy, sent you mail through the system here with contact number if you want to meet up.

Well I think it can be said that a great weekend was had by all. European records dropping like flies and Top Methanol Dragster provided what has to be amongst the greatest drag racing I've ever seen in 30 years aound the sport.

Was great to meet you guys on Monday. Hope you enjoyed it and that you'll be back at the Pod again soon.

What Ben said! I'm already planning the Finals in September followed by LMS at Silverstone the next day. That would be a nice couple of days racing I reckon. Thanks for the words of wisdom, Chris. If you ever want to be bored stupid about the merits of various historic circuit racers, come to the Goodwood Revival and I'll try to reciprocate!
