Making one last trip up north in early June to Fort William .Know about the site where the A72 goes off 74 at Abingdon ,and the fixed sites on the A82 in Glasgow + seen the sites between Glasgow and Dunbarton .Know about the sites in Glencoe - so apart from places on bridges on 74 ( any particular places would be nice )- any new hidy holes for el wallet raider .And last time I was up there ,there was a pair of cops on Loch Lomond side , just north of Balloch .But that was last May - so any more up to date info would be appreciated .

Plod patrols the lochside (Loch Lomond) all the time - keep an eagle eye on the laybys by the water itself. A couple of them are below road level and plod can be very hard to see there - particularly the ones before Inverbeg. There's often a patrol parked up in Tarbet, either on the straight after the left hander past the hotel, or more relevant to you, beside the primary school in Tarbet itself. However if you do get caught by them there, then the ones who are, really do deserve it.

I came through Crianlarich this morning and there was a van parked just past the bridge; I've not seen that one for a long time.

Generally once past Crianlarich just keep an eye out on the long, long straights and you should be fine.

For bridges on A74 there are ones in south lanarkshire on bridges near Larkhall Stonehouse and lesmahagow
Furhter south, basically any bridge south of dumfries in particualr Ecclefechan and now a new van sometimes on the new 74 just before carlisle
Not one single one of these deals with any area in which there have been road safety issues or high accident rates!
Very sad that it is only for revenue and not for safety

All of the above is good advice, be careful on the stretch between Crianlarich and Tyndrum, especially the long straight as you approach Tyndrum. As you head north out of Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy is another spot to watch especially on your return heading south as its a long straight. The next spot is at the ski lift on the Rannoch Moor itself (Camera Van).

...one other thing to watch for is Deer on the road! Could be a bit more damaging than points on your license. Especially if your driving early morning or early evening/overnight.

On more than one occasion I've seen the northern traffic boys here with a spud gun.

Just inside their boundary, on the left as you head north immediately after the 'Welcome to the Highlands' sign. The car is out of sight on hard standing, police on foot.

Thanks for the Loch Lomand advice -should have mentioned I knew about the Tyndrum site and the one just north of Bridge of Orchy, and the Crainlarech site ( just on the right going north after the bridge?) .Not the first time I've seen the van at the ski lift - but it's usually visible from a long way off, sitting south of the junction .
cat - not just early morning etc - I've seen deer in the past couple of years just outside of the Kingshouse road -young ones mind you -looked like a pair of German Shepherds from a distance .
