I just wondered where the timing points are for the official Nurburgring lap record attempts? I presume it's the start and finish of a flying lap of the tourist circuit (as opposed to VLN or B2G)?

I'm not sure there is actually an 'official' lap record at the 'Ring in the sense that you're asking, as lap records are only officially recorded during races. However, the closest thing to an official road car record are probably the Sport Auto Supertest laps. These are measured from the T13 straight, but start and end at different points, with a gap of a couple of hundred yards or so in between.

Thanks. So when Porsche and Nissan, for example, start mud slinging that's their point of reference?

No. I think that would be a full lap.

Nissan appear to use the 'Sport Auto' lap with the small segment missing:

as did Black Falcon when they did the supercar group test:

No, what was mentioned above you is how the times are measured and is a full lap.

full lap time is usually measured from tiergarten to hohe acht judging by most of the posts you see.

Thats not right, Hohe Act is 2/3 of the way round the circuit...just after Karrussel.

The reason why the 'full lap' is not actually a full lap is so that it can be used as a point of reference when cars are also lapping the F1 circuit (such as during VLN, 24hr etc).

The Sport Auto lap is 3-4 sec quicker than a "full lap" (as in, "100% of the entire length of the circuit" ).

hehe

I was wondering if there was an element of optimism involved in some of the PH posts or if I was just that bad.
