after driving for about 20 min. i noticed a burned rubber smell...

went home to check the cerb, did not find anything...
ok, exhaust is hot but nothing near and even the smell was less strong near the exhaust... smell is the strongest near the rear wheels... specially the outside (??)

is this a TVR thing or is a closer inspection recommanded??

thx

Did your tyres rub on the inside of the arch when driving "entusiastically"? That could smoke a bit and leave a lingering smell.

Paint a yellow stripe accross the width of your tyre and on the sidewalls - drive it to the bottom of the road and back, and just check where, and if, any paint has been scraped off. If some has, then you will have an indication that your tyre is rubbing and maybe where it's rubbing.

I cant help reading dutch cerberas posts in my head in a crap dutch accent...sorry about the burning rubber...what type of kecks are you wearing?

Most likely cause is the tyres as previosuly mentioned or maybe something coming into contact with the engine or exhaust? or maybe something electrical?

Hope you get it sorted.

hahaha... actually i agree, but not just the accent... when i read back... it is just all of it..

typing to fast i guess.

rear tyres are 255/40 ZR 17 goodyear eagle F1
rear wheels BBS 8Jx 17H2 (what that might mean)

strange thing is that the exhuast is hot but i did not see any rubber stuff near...

boxes in the boot are ok

I get this sometimes, usually with a full tank, if the rear tyres just touch the wheel arch after bumps or dips in the road. It can happen even at relatively slow speeds and you can only just hear the tyre make contact but it makes a hell of a rubber pong that lingers for a while.

If you have got rubbing reartyres with an 8J wheel, you should have a very different offset to the originals I think.

I have 9J*18 with offset 35mm and on the righthandside it slightly rubbs. It should be stated in the wheel what offset you have, but..as has been said put some paint on it. Then again....it would be strange to happen now. You have already driven how many kilometers without problems??

Just to make it clear - I meant something like a Yellow wax crayon - Not a 2" wide stripe in a nice bright yellow Dulux Gloss biggrin:

I just had my arches cut away and re-glassed for this very reason on the Griff. If the tyres do touch you'll see blueing where they come into contact.

ok, no worries, that is one of the not solved TVR issues.
over years this was, and still is, one the issues and mysteries which have never been solved.

keep you posted if i hear something new on this.

Yesterday i checked the tyres and did not see anything abnormal.

Will try with the colours later on. Hopefully that will do.

thx

Make sure there are no cables in the engine bay melting on the manifolds. I had this burning smell and had no idea what it was until the radio stopped working.
