Finding Work in the Middles East - How?

Hi Guys,
I am interested in moving to the Middle East, not fussed where, just not Israel! To narrow it down, I am considering Saudi, UAE or Bahrain.
A pre-requisite to the move is to have a job out there, now how do you think I should go about this?
I have tried applying for jobs online but never seem to get a response. I am a Technical Writer (IT) and have been for the last 4 years or so.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

You'll get a better response if you're over here and can meet agencies face to face, they probably get hundreds of speculative applications from overseas.
Seeing as the job situation (at least in UAE) isn't amazing at the moment, you'll possibly struggle finding something from the UK.
