The best Enroute Drink Stop

Hi All,

Im travelling down on Friday this year and want to know if there is village, town or bar that people have tended to stop at on the way down. Before you say there are loads I know that but are there any that people are arranging to meet at or where we know there will be other PH's.

The really big stop between Calais and Rouen is the Aire de baie de somme and whilst strictly a service station its done on a grand scale and rest assured you will see an awful lot of exotics moored up getting filled. You can something decent enough to eat and drink although I am sure they were serving soemthing last year that once had paws!

My advice after Rouen is if you want to stop is to take the old N138 rather than the new motorway, you will see any number of cafes in the villages with assorted Brits and their motors enjoying some lapping practice, these we have done many times

Is that the service station where you can go around the side of the main building and it's a natural reserve and seems a world away from any British services?

That’s the one; there is a large observation tower to watch the bird life (flying variety) from and also a large lake full of overfed carp.

It’s actually a really decent bit of architecture but this all about Le Mans so enough of all that girly nonsense.

That place is cool as... we normally get there about 5am for a couple of expresso's, sit round the back and watch the sun rise up through the mist lifting off the water, birds going mental, it all gets a bit emotional really :-(
