159 2.4 jtdm misfire?
Discussion
Hi all,
Anyone had a misfire on their 2.4 diesel i wonder?
i've got an intermittent misfire, 1800-2600 rpm generally in higher gears.
It's been in to the dealer today but they can't find anything wrong and just wondered if anyone else had a similar problem they can help my dealer fix.
I've got no engine errors showing, and it mostly runs ok, if a little thirsty.
when it happens it feels like a puncture! dunk, dunk, dunk and massive feeling as well as noise. goes away when you back off and eventually using a lower to pile revs on.
Anyone help? Thanks!

I've never undestood why people want a Diesel powered Alfa. Anyway the Fuel-oil filter would be top of my list of suspects. Sometimes the induction pipes perish and the crack opens at a given frequency dictated by the engine rev's. Also if you have let the tank run at less than a quarter and are agressive around corners you can get an air lock in the fuel-oil line. A fuel-oil swirl pot should take care of that.
thanks for replies chaps.
my first thoughts were clogged particulate filters, however these were fine. When they get clogged an error code does pop up apparently and you have to 'regenerate' them. Basically rev the tits off it until it coughs out black smoke and clears itself up.
I got them to reflash the ecu and it seems to have sorted it.
It started happening when i was towing, and all i can think is that the extra load confused the ecu into increasing the fuel or something, i guess these things self manage and 'learn'.
in answer to why anyone would want a diesel alfa - company car tax. simple mate!

Mine's just started doing something similar. If I go from full throttle in say third, change up to fourth, and then reapply the throttle I get a hesitation and no revs for a second or so. I suspect it's something like the EGR valve sticking. If I drive gently it doesn't occur.
Mine was the EGR valve. Replaced under warranty.PaulTypeR said:

Got my 159 Q4 2.4 DIESEL chipped and its pumping around 260bhp out at the wheels.... Ive showed many a petrol car up on the road inc petrol Alfa's!!!
So Im glad ive got a diesel and the torque is amazing..
Did getting it chipped sort out the horrendous turbo lag?So Im glad ive got a diesel and the torque is amazing..
