Z4 Roadster Help..
Discussion
Evening,
Just after some advice people. Currently looking at the above. I've just phoned my Insurance Company who have confirmed it will only be an extra £55 pounds, which I am extremely delighted about, as I thought it was going to be about an extra £400+
I am looking for an 06 plate, which is looking to set me back about 16/17k..
Is there anything that I need to look out for? Is there alot of sound from wind inside the car at 90+...?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In 2006 the car was face lifted, so getting a facelift one kinda makes sense especially with your budget, unless you specifically want a pre-facelift for example.Just after some advice people. Generally they are good solid cars. Just make sure they have a full service history, which is around 15k miles or every 2 years, whichever comes sooner. Also check brake fluid is done every 2 years, and all the other usual checks.
If they are the 5 spoke star alloys (split rims), check for corrosion on the polished metal areas, this is a common fault on the wheels (all of them I've seen are corroded). Don't get them re-conditioned as part of the sale unless they will be split and then re-diamond cut etc.
Personally I think the Z4 is very refined as it comes for a sports car. At 80mph ish the wind noise with the roof up is not intrusive at all. I can easily talk to my passenger at those speeds on the motorway.
Do some searching here anyway, there were lots of Z4 buying threads between Nov/February time

Well I suppose what to look for depends on the spec you like and what you're using the car for - weekend toy or everday commute? Don't know of any real mechanical weaknesses (apart from rear springs - the only thing I've had to replace since I bought mine in 2003). Is there anything spec wise you really want?
As for wind noise at 90mph - well the hood is pretty well insulated so fine at 90 when its up (take it thats what you meant)

Very little wind noise at high speed, as long as a wind-break is fitted (as you can see on my car below).
Had you thought about an Alpina Roadster S - easily available for your budget, although will be pre-facelift. The 3.4 litre engine is a masterpiece (300+ bhp), and Lux models have DVD navigation, xenons, bluetooth, heated seats etc. Only 174 made, most of which are 2004/2005 vehicles.
Check the DVD screens opens and closes smoothly - the motor fails on these and requires the whole unit to be replaced (not cheap). Rear coil springs have a tendancy to break. I also have an E46, and the Z4 does not have the same level of build quality; however, they are relatively light, so performance and handling is good.

Thanks for all your input.
Gary - car looks lovely!
Problem with driving a 3.4 would be the insurance company would probably bend me over. I found this car this morning, however it's been up for 2 hours and it's sold already!

Are you sure?-theres no headlamp wash which all xenon lights must be fitted with to comply with european law.
Have a look inside the car for a headlamp aim adjuster(usually next to the instrument lighting adjustment.)Xenons self level so you cant adjust the aim on an xenon equipped car.

This was my thinking.. No washer. I am going to phone the chap tomorrow, to gain more information on the Z4 Have a look inside the car for a headlamp aim adjuster(usually next to the instrument lighting adjustment.)Xenons self level so you cant adjust the aim on an xenon equipped car.

Yep, the give away is the high voltage stickers over the lamps under the bonnet, or the lack of a second dial on the light switch unit in the cabin.
Also remember, if some past owner has fitted aftermarket xenon type lamps, they may try sell it on as having xenons despite it not being proper ones.
