i've put on 900 miles in the last 10days, and instead of my usual driving style I thought i'd calm down abit. kept the speed below 80 leptons and not really use WOT or sports mode. it was hard but quite enjoyed it.

my average after 410 miles was 29mpg (410miles and 64L) i actually thought i was going to break the 30mpg barrier at one point but a coupe of days of heavy traffic took the average down.

the trip was showing 26mpg (which is way out!), with average speed at 53mph

There am I trying to get more BHP and less MPG

How have you got on with the engine ECU talking to the gearbox ECU
When the auto gearbox has been removed there are problems so I would take it that taking the petrol ECU out would have the same efect.

It wasn't you joining the A329M yesterday was it?
Only the misses got stuck behind a XKR doddering up the slip road at snails pace and has been ribbing me something rotten about the speed Jaguar drivers go at ever since.

I didn't realise the diesel XKRs were available yet?

So you switched to an oil burner, lost significant performance, refinement and you're only getting 28mpg despite the fact your fuel costs about 10% more?

Serves you right for joining the dark side. Now get a V8 before I slap you.

A329M? Don't know where that is! i didn't actually drive that slowly, just kept the speed down from my usual 3rd lane speeds. Must make it clear i wasn't tailgating lorries or driving at 56mph!!

i haven't had the gearbox removed (unless the wife has been busy with the spanners?!)

NST - I think a few people have missed the humour and think you have actually fitted a diesel engine!

The Jaguar V8 is remarkably efficient - it's quite possible to achieve high 20s if you can avoid the temptation of the loud pedal!
