Discovery Diff Lock - wont go in
Discussion
Its the last of the old shape TDi's with a diff lock fitted (the ones that LR fitted with all the extras to sell them off). Had most of it apart now and all the linkages on the outside of the box are now moving OK - the problem is in the lever end. Had the console out this morning and had the cover plate off which covers the high low stick linkage and even with lots of oil and a lever, I still can't move it (yet). Any ideas?
Hi
My disco had the same problem, you will need to buy a complete high low selector, which are actually quite cheap. Take about 10 mins to fit.
The only other possibility is adjustment, but it sounds as though you have done that.
Very common on LR's that have never been offroad. Alot of driver probaly don't realise it's there.

All sorted now
Selector rod (through rod under diff lock, high low lever) completely seized in casing
Took it off and put it in the vice, lots of oil and heat from a heat gun and it moves fine now.
As said in the posts, I am sure it’s never been used in 10 years.
It will from now on!

You have no idea how funny this is to me.....
Have managed to get 'Dolly' stuck in the snow this year as couldn't move the lever across to diff lock etc. I struggled and fought with her all I could.
SWMBO was laughing her .... off. Oh so you think you can do this then? etc etc.... Once the bu66er did move across, I still couldnt move the beast. Turns out I had beached it across several large boulders with the wheels the wrong side of the boulders.
Got out, moved one and it drove off as though it was tarmac.
When these things are driven properly they are awesome! (if you can work the trasnfer box). I have also been fortunate enough to have a full off road day in a Disco and having been off road frequently (farms/beaches/fields etc) I was utterly amazed at what they can do!!!! Awesome.
