I've been doing my usual thing of planning virtual road trips on Google Maps but when trying to plan a route from Davos to Stelvio it keeps sending me on the Klosters train and refuses to use the A28. Am I missing something about the 28? Is it unfinished or something with a cartoon esque 'bridge out' sign in the middle!

That's google map for you - the Fluela pass is kept open all year round and is a cracking drive.

The A28 doesn't get you to the top of the Stelvio. You have to come off it and head up the Umbrail Pass. Maybe because the Umbrail Pass is a smaller road Google maps won't recognise it as a viable route or something?

Had same issue when planning my trip. As has been said - use the Fluelapass - Not sure if it IS open all year - but my Son and I stopped for a Snowball fight on that road last August! Great fun.

This is a new thing, as I'm fairly sure it wasnt doing that when I was planning a couple of months ago.

No you're right - there's the Vereina tunnel that opened in '99 - forgot!

Mega road. We have just done it with a couple of friends. Fantastic. driving Really the best road ever. I would go back tomorrow!

There is a bit that is not paved though. Now I can say I took a Ford GT off road eek

Don't do the tunnel, but the Umbrail pass.
