BMW MK4 Sat system clarification

I have the following
Mk4 DVD sat nav unit with a 2003-2004 disk, part T1000-6720 GB/Ireland
BMW Professional BM54 widescreen head ( with tape )showing SW 4-1|20.
What do I need to upgrade to the latest map and 7 digit postcode.
I keep searching and getting differing answers. For instance, someone said I could just put the 2009 disk in and off I went. Someone else said I need to upgrade the software first to V31?

For latest map, get the 2009-1 nav disc. For latest operating system - and yours is way overdue - upgrade to v32 (it would show as 4-1/100). Both upgrades can be had from Ebay, your friendly stealer or you could possibly venture over on www.xoutpost.com and read up on the various tips & tricks under the Nav Operating System...

...also worth knowing that 7 digit post-code is via POI, so not particularly intuitive to use.

Hi there I wonder if i could trouble you for some advice.
I have just purchased a 2004 M3 conv with the dvd/sat nav but wanted to upgrade it. I am having some trouble finding the software cd and 2009 cd do u know of any reliable website that offer it.
