More rack questions

Rack guru's, I need your advice

Mine's filled the offside gaiter with oil once again.

Am I right in assuming that it could be either the right hand end seal or one of the spool valve seals that's gone?



I believe the spool seals are a BMW item according to TVR Chimaera pages

Rob surely it hasnt been serviced properly by the company you used so should be under there warrenty. I know Johno had to send his back a couple of times as things went wrong with soon after he installed it...Not ideal but i would be send it back mate..

Let's just say I'll be able to provide a reference should anyone ask me about power steering companies located on the meridian!

They've had two shots, they don't get a third. It's going elsewhere on Tuesday.

Hang about Rob, I may have read that the chap who built the racks at the factory is now working privately in Blackpool? I'd have thought the experience of TVR racks would make a difference

He is and I'd love to send it there, but they can't fit it in till a week on Friday. I wouldn't mind in the off season but two weeks in summer is too long.

Power steering services at Charlton are used by all the car trade,, If you ring them, Get their number by google, they work on a couple of days turn round..
i have used them with trade & private cars & always been happy with their service & prices..hope this helps

Anyone managed to get their rack in/out sideways through the chassis rails? I know it's taller than the diagonal measurement but I wondered if anyone has managed to get enough tilt to do it with the pinion tower still in place?

Having seen all those little bearings it's going back in one piece but I would rather avoid taking the Y piece off again if I can.

had mine done by the same people and its been ok, how much oil did you loose ?

yep two weeks without that warm wind on yer chest is too long !!!!

Yes it can be done, alot of twisting and turning to do that, doesn't seem like it will go but it will if you persivire ( sp?)

Perseverance it is then It might be a little easier anyway as I have the O/S hub off at the moment to replace a wheel bearing that I paid someone to do a year ago!
