Cayenne

Tuners show off souped up offerings at Essen show

No Essen show would be complete without Hamann in attendance with one of their extreme machines. The Hamann Cayenne boasts the full range of upgrades from the German specialists. Huge modifications are made to the bodywork with new headlight mouldings, a body kit and monstrous 22 inch wheels. The effect is exaggerated further by the new suspension kit lowering the car by 40mm.

Under the bonnet, Hamann take the stock Porsche engine and increase the capacity to 5.6 litres, increasing power to a useful 400bhp. The Hamann Cayenne can launch itself to sixty in 6.4 seconds. Another kit for the turbo'd engine is also in the pipeline with a target output of 540bhp.

Rinspeed

Rinspeed are often associated with the more extreme side of car modification with several wacky prototypes having graced shows in the past. At the Essen show this week they have a relatively sensible interpretation of the Cayenne on display.

The Rinspeed Cayenne comes complete with carbon fibre wheel arches, a high performance braking system, and various other minor cosmetic upgrades. They also offer engine kits to squeeze more horses from the standard Porsche engines. Two kits are available, taking power up to from 340bhp to 370bhp for the Cayenne S or from 450bhp to 520bhp for the Turbo.

"The Hamann Cayenne can launch itself to sixty in 6.4 seconds"

Isn't this slower than the production model?

Prefer the Gemablla GT600 without all the cosmetic "stuff" that appears on the above photographed conversions.

ie 600bhp, feck orf alloys, pimp glass and a loud exhaust system.

What is it with German and Swiss firms choosing to arse up rather agreeable cars (just been looking at the maxxed 360s). Just looks like some Lax Power kids got some real money but never grew up!

Paul,

Each to their own, one man's Bhuna is another man's Korma and all that, but do you really mean that if you had 3 kids and one owned a horse and you had cause to transport the thing in its box from time to time you wouldn't consider one?

I had a sit in one last Thursday. It was rather nice.

Greg, totally an opinion. But surely a land rover is a better car for towing, a mate who has a horse race stud as a sideline, with 3 kids and a horse box,,binned his S6 Avant, bought a disco TD5 & a Box S.

We speak of cars quite a bit and the K-N has not entered into a single discussion.

I am only responding on a forum, but i really would not consider one, if you have a horsebox,,why not get a Touareg V10 diesel, get a brace of shires in the back and show the horsey set how it should be done?

KN - King of the Chelsea tractors and nothing more.

It was designed as such, works as such and will be the biggest selling Porsche for exactly that reason.

Fit for purpose you see...

I just read that they are going crazy for them in China .Porsche expected to bring in 40 to the country, but so far 250 have been registered this year. The balance are grey market cars, trading at double the european price.Porsche have now re scheduled to sell 750 units next year.

Not for me , but I clearly have limited taste.

But why?
They wont go of road like that so whats the point? Might as well by and performance estate car instead if you need both speed an space.

Or even better spend the money on a decent sports car.

And if money is no object?
Buy a couple of decent sports cars....and one for me!
