Self Build Option

hi ultima owners,

I have been looking at the cost of building an ultima gtr for some time. However the limiting factor being funds, usual problem!!. Second option I could save some cash and buy a complete car in 3 years, why is it that people build these cars and then sell them with only 3000 miles?

Third option, has anyone been successful in building there own chassis off their own jig, ditto for the upper & lower wishbones. Alloy hubs are not a problem as their readily avaliable, which leaves uprights to be cnc fabricated. I realise the task is not a simple one, chassis has to be square, sufficient rigidity has to be built into chassis, balance points, center lines - axles, triangulations points – front to rear axles, and not forgetting camber, caster and toe.

Dont forget you will have to build it to the exact dimensions of the standard car so it will take the bodywork and all the gubbins in the correct positions.

As for the build all sorts of reasons spring to mind over the past couple of years. Money needed for 'other' things/ for some the build is the hobby not necessarily the drive/ people get bored quickly/emigration/ not getting enough use from the car etc etc

Welcome to the forum.

If you really want to save some money on the chassis, you could build one on a VW chassis.

You could then save a little more by using a VW body.

The engine, gearbox, seats etc will all fit too.

... you could even buy one that was already finished!

I rekon you could get your own VW based Ultima replica for under 2 grand!

If you change the badges and make loud BRMMM BRRMM noises nobody will ever tell.
