Looking to buy my wife a Gallardo as an anniversery present but I cant decide whether to get her an auto or manual.

I know she prefers manuals all day when it comes to cars but cant help but think, this is one of those cars where an auto is nice to have. I cant ask her because its going to be a suprise, ive dropped hints and got little in the way of feedback.

I know very little about Lamborghini's so any buying pointers would be interested, anyone know of any dealers in the north west? Looked on the Manchester Lambo site and they dont seem to have any used stock. Im looking for one in yellow, either a spyder or coupe.

Lee,

You should have an email very soon...

It will be a sorry mess of letters and numbers as that's what PH messages look like that I send, I'll keep it simple so you can make sense of it!

Not long ago a Murcielago Roadster was there but didn't appear on the site (along with a couple of others) so it might be worth a pop in anyway. yum

Surely you could just make up a conversation asking about how you prefer manual all day, bla bla bla and how a lot of the guys on here swear by the flappy paddle stuff and find out what she'd prefer? Although, if not, probably safer to get a manual, better the devil you know and all that.......

I have done, she likes automatics in convertables so she can just cruise round and enjoy the sunshine etc so she likes them in the right car but likes a manual to feel in control.

She has driven an R8 auto and loved it, but she hant driven an R8 manual - would she like it more? I dont know.

The auto would be my choice so ill probably go for one.

Is it worth going for anything other than the bog standard one if she isnt doing any track time in it?

I am not sure I would describe e-gear as auto, but given she liked the R-tronic in the R8 she will get along fine with e-gear.

As said, the e-gear isn't an automatic, if that's what you meant by your original post, though there is an auto mode (not that I've ever used it on my LP). The Gallardo manual is great but needs effort to work it smoothy, I would describe it as "meaty" if that makes sense. My wife's SL is a manual and she loves it but she's a bit of a petrolhead...

Personal choice really. I chose manual, but I was more bothered about getting an Orange one!

Dont agree with you there. Colour was the most important to me..

Somewhere a few pages ago was a very long thread where a chap posted that he wished to settle the argument as to which Lamborghini colour was the best...

Unsurprisingly, by the time the thread ran out of steam there was absolutely no concensus in any way shape of form - perhaps one or two 'never, ever THAT colour' but no actual agreement.

here it is:

If she prefers manuals, then go for a manual. I also think that it may even be easier to sell (just my opinion) because there are so many e-gears out there and fewer and fewer manuals.

Hi just a small update to thank you all for the advice had to come clean with her as I got a bit excited.

Took her and let her place an order for a new LP560-4 in white with a manual gearbox, very suprised to get a deal on one. It was David who threw the idea of a new one my way, saying I might be suprised on how much one costs.

I have a bit of a gentlemens agreement with the dealer so I cant say how much im paying which is a new thing for me. Never had this with a dealer before, but then again this is my first super car purchase.

Should have it a week tomorrow so we are planning a few days in the lake district at our holiday home there when it comes.

She hasnt had it delivered yet and is already planning on trading it in for the Murci replacement in a few years rolleyes

BTW who do you all insure with? We can find reasonably priced insurance but with a £2.5k excess - ouch!

Well done. It's nice to see someone buying a manual these days. Hope you both enjoy the car remember to post some pics when it arrives.

Big congratulations, the LP560 is the most beautiful car in production today in my opinion if not my all time favourite looking car. I bet she'll love it to death once it's here, but that wait is going to be painfully long I suspect. hehe

ps. Am I right in thinking you're not too far from Audenshaw? The name's familiar from the NW forum. Hopefully will see it out and about if so. yum

I went to Audenshaw boys school, live in Ashton though. My mum lives in Audenshaw so id expect to see it passing through a fair bit smile

Forgot to say thank you to David Price at the Lambo owners club for the help with the purchase.
