VENOM 500 Engine Fire ....
Discussion
Started up, reversed out of garage ( in my case a wooden structure with 3 sides and 2 doors and roof) belted up Grace, opened the gate and then.........smoke....lots and lots of smoke from engine bay.....Grace jumps out and heads off at speed to grab our hose pipe whilst I turn off ignition and pop the hood.....engine dowsed ,lots of smoke and steam.......investigation under way.

Hope its nothing to serious,,,
I hope not Baz,,, or it might be on a flat be to you.I didn`t get any flames just loads of smoke and it didn`t seem to be electrical, the smoke came from the somewhere under the L/H manifold so I can think what would be there to burn???? It drove fine last time out about 6 weeks ago. Will let you know my findings in the morning.Hope its nothing to serious,,,
just chatted to Tom, sounds like power steering to me espicially when he said he checked the cap a couple of years ago ! luckily just smoke this time and no actual fire. Told Tom to check the fluid level if the cap is still there, incase its leaking elsewhere
its quite a common occurance on the forums and has cropped up quite a few times over the years

Many thanks guys for the help/thoughts and Neil thanks for the link.I checked this morning and the power steering cap was still in place, removed it and checked the level , which seemed fine (about 1.5 inces from the top?)but it was interesting to note what last time I checked the cap (a few years ago) it was so stiff I coudn`t budge it but this morning it unscrewed fine (so it had slackened a little over the years).
So, what caused the smoke? The only clues I could find were, a stash of empty acorn shells on top of ther engine block/under the intake manifold and some mouse dropping on the bulkhead panel, so I guess it must have been a mouse or something nesting under the manifold heat shield! Looks like the cats have failed me again, going to get some "Rentokil" poison things to put around the car.....the joys of country living.....err not

sounds like the power steering cap has come off ? or the mice have been busy again nibbling away over the winter
