How come they can race at Monaco?

I think the Monaco Gp is a great spectacle, tests the drivers talents and skills to the endth degree, but I don't understand the contradiction, you have drivers saying this track and that are dangerous because the runnoffs arnt big enough or Bernie saying the facilities at some circuits are not up to his required standard, such as Silverstone. Monaco cannot meet any of the so called requirements, no runnoffs, pit lane too small, poor access.

As for the comparitve lack of run off areas at Monaco I'm guessing the relatively low cornering speeds at Monaco makes this less of an issue, but I see your point.

So, why Monaco if not the money? Given how Ecclestone has been throwing away historic tracks, I doubt its Monaco's historic value.
My Vote is that Bernie and Spanky have 'rainy day Tax-free stashes' in the principality..and that the Prince has numerous items of interest for the Press, of Both of them.So, why Monaco if not the money? Monaco is 'special' it does not meet the FIA 'standard', its too narrow, too short in length, and lap time, the pit lane is too narrow, even now the garages don't meet FIA standard. As were waiting for it all to start, I thought I'd ask the question,
It is given special dispensation. Hell the first weekend marked on the F1 calendar is Monaco, then after that every other GP weekend is worked out from there. It's on for what it is, its as important to F1 as Ferrari. History, glamour, business, blah, blah, etc.

In The Times today, its report that Prince Rainer has stated that Monaco will go wherever Ferrari go.
It doesn't matter if you are fan of either of these instiutions, they are F1. If they leave Bernie & Max's Scaletrix track will be well and truly broken and no one will want to play anymore.

My guesses:
1) It's a sponsors' favourite. Drop Monaco and a lot of the money in F1 might walk away, either sponsors pulling out or just sponsoring less.
2) It's a fans' favoutite. Drop the British GP, the British fans moan. Drop the Spanish GP and the Spanish fans moan. Drop Monaco, everyone moans.
If either of those are correct I suspect it will be no. 1 since the FIA / Bernie don't seem to pay a lot of attention to moaning fans.
