Simple question really - whats the genuine cruising MPG on a 330i touring?

Just sold my MX-5 and I have seen one I really like.....had an E90 320d and couldnt get anywhere near the manuf claims!

My mate gets a real world 27mpg from his 325i manual. It seems to get about 35mpg cruising at 70, but high 20s around town and a bit less if you start nailing it. As the 325/330 are basically the same in terms of running costs thought I'd pop this in...

My E46 330Ci is showing an average mpg over the last 7500 miloes of just over 29. This is 75% dual-carriageway and 25%$ town driving. Sees 30-35mpg on a decent A road run.

I've got the 330Ci, so not the touring, but with an auto box, and I am getting an average over the past 1500 miles of 26mpg, though I've seen 30-32mpg at a steady 65 on a dual-carriageway, but as soon as you have to start accelerating that drops down...

I have an auto 330 touring and I'm averaging 22.4.

Monday to Friday - in and out of work, 4 miles each way.

Cruising at 75 I'll get 30 mpg

Our manual E46 gets around 40mpg, autos apparently get mid 30's

330ci coupe manual, 27mpg in stop/start traffic and 35mpg on a run.

OBC's mpg reading is always under by a few MPG.

If you're really geeky you can recalibrate the E36 OBC mpg reading using a correction factor - is it possible to do this on the E46 anyone know? I've had 2 E46s but never bothered to try and find out

Simple answer (in my experience).... 30mpg give or take a smidge. Maybe a bit more on long m-way runs. Obviously less on urban trips.

My car's on a 2000 X-reg and has done 140k. So will I be consigning it to the scrapheap for a £2k kickback to save the planet next year? Errr... no.

FWIW we are on our 4th touring, mpgs as follows:
E46 330D manual: urban 33mpg, mway 43mpg
E91 320D manual: urban 38mpg, mway 44mpg
E46 325i manual: urban 22mpg, mway 28mpg
E91 320i manual: urban 22mpg, mway 33mpg

The latter 2 are the wife's cars and all they do is short pottering journeys.

Bloody hell, I can get more than that out of my M3!!
Previous 330ci sport (manual) I averaged 28.4 over about 20,000miles. Mainly A-roads and through town, rarely go on motorways.

Bit bigger but I have a 530iA

Get around 20-25mpg around town but cruising at 75mph it will do around 38mpg. On a run it will return a good 32-36mpg average.

Would guess the 330i Touring would be similar.

I've got an auto 330i which returns 27mpg mixed driving with a fairly heavy foot! The 330d auto i had before it did 32mpg with the same driving. Swings and roundabouts.

I'm shocked at how low everyones mpg is, book says it should be doing 38 on a run.

Am taking the Z4 3.0i (same engine) round europe in a couple of weeks and i have budgeted on getting 40 on the autoroutes by taking it steady yikes

Not quite the same but my E39 530i Manual yesterday got 35 mpg from Jct 29 M1 to centre of Birmingham and back. Not too bad (although there are a few mile sof 50mph average speed camera sections.

I would say I normally get around 30mpg with a mix of driving.

book for the new engine and efficient dynamics on the 3lr would get into the high 30s but the previous E46 generation will average around 30mpg depending on how much time you spend in traffic or at high motorway speeds. My z4 with the same engine averages 31mpg overall with mostly high speed A road driving with the roof down. Will do 35mpg on a cruise but you'd have to be trying very hard to see 40mpg and no chance of having the roof down as the drag will drop you back to 30s.

'the book' i.e. BMWs claim is that my 118d manual 6 speed will do 62.8mpg on the combined cycle - doesnt get anywhere near it, more like 49-50mpg. Don't believe BMWs claims.

I had a Z4 3.0i SMG which got around 30 mpg in everyday driving. It was 6 speed.

Now have Z3 3.0i steptronic auto which gets mid-high twenties (but doesnt really get taken on long runs), it is 5 speed.

Not 330i's but the same (231hp) engine.

Last couple of weeks I've only be doing about 75 mile per week and I've calculated my mpg - 12.7 eek

Since I've bought the car which is 6000 miles ago it's 21 mpg.
