I've got a bit of a clunk coming from the engine bay. Looking at the nearside there are 2 large pipes coming from the side vent and seem to be wedged into the engine but not actually connected to anything.
On the drivers side there is at least 1 more of these tubes which wriggles its way to somewhere near the front turbo but this is wiggleing about in fresh air. Now I can re cable tie it so it doesn't move about but is it just to direct air to the engine bay in general or should it be attached to something?

The theory is that the tubes are meant to provide cooling air to specific places in the engine bay. From one side, one of the pipes should be directed at the front turbo and the other towards the starter motor. On the other side one again should be pointed at the front turbo and the other into the front of the alternator. They are meant to be held in place by cable ties or similar. Mine were crushed and pointing randomly into the engine bay....I`ve tried to make them give some air flow now to the correct places. I`m not sure how effective they are and obviously they only work at speed. I believe the M400 has a different set up and a more effective `side scoop` on each side of the body.

As for the pipes, if you look how the go from the side grills on the 3R/gto there is no way they produce any worthwhile airflow. Also it has been tested in the windtunnel and shown they are a close second to a chocolate teapot.
But hey what do I know...
An old topic but I`ve just removed the inner wheel arch panel on the drivers side to check out the fuses for the ignition and fuel pump (I`m about to do an oil change and I want to build up some oil pressure before the engine starts) and I can definitely confirm that air goes down the side vents. There is a junction between the body scoop and the hose adapter which on my car was rather hastily sealed when the car was built. Result - road c**p all over the ECU and harness connectors. Now I`ve now properly sealed the joint but the way it was left by the factory it was almost the intention to spray mud and water at the most vulnerable part of the car...or am I getting paranoid?
