Does exactly what it says on the tin really. 
How much is the Nat B non-race licence?
Do you have to join the club that runs the event?
How much are entry fees?
How do you go about running two people in the same car?
Would I be allowed to run my Formula Ford as a novice?

1. Licence about £30 i think. check MSA website
2. No, but you do need to be a member of an invited club.
3. Cost varies on hill. Wiscombe is about £70, Gurston / Prescott more
4. One of you runs in a different "batch". All sorted by organisers.
5. FF1600 ok to be run by a novice as it's less than 2 litres..

You may also wish to consider the Hillclimb & Sprint Association. They are a very friendly bunch, good championship, go to most of the best venues and are very beginner-centric. There website also has lots of getting started type info.

That's £48 new membership as opposed to £110 for BARC. 
Tough choice!
I am only doing it as a jolly, I know that my car won't be the fastest in it's class so it will be done on a budget. Hopefully I can share the transport costs with a mate who is possibly interested depending on cost too. That has made it more viable definitly.

How far do you want to travel?
I'm a novice myself, so can't claim to be an expert, but the HSA championship, for example, covers a couple of hundred miles between the various locations. A local club, in contrast, may well organise 4 or 5 of its own events a year as well as being elligible for entry to the neighboring clubs' events.
HSA sounds like a good bet if you want to follow the series around the country, but if you want to stay local I'd try and find a suitable local club.

The first year I only want to do two or three events. I shall take the car to Santa Pod for RWYB days, just to practice starts.

costs are venue specific, Goodwood is a sprint and is £130+ as is Brands Hatch, whereas somewhere like Curboro is around £80 (depending on organising club). Aintree is a cracking value sprint, often get 6-7 runs per day rather than the normal 4.
Hills tend to be 85-100 quid generally. Prescott, Loton Park, harewood and Shelsely are great for atmosphere and spectator viewing (for family, friends and fan club!), with Wiscombe and Gurston good too although maybe not quite as good for spectators (imho of course...)
Often competing in a championship will be the cheapest method, ours costs £20 a year and you geta T shirt for that too (last years make great car polishers/dirty hand wipers)

That's only the british championship venues though. There must be a few more around you're area, although I used to live in Towcester and don't remember there being too many hills about there!!!

It's not a great area for them to be honest. I am in High Wycombe and seem to spend two hours getting to anything. Curborough, Shelsley, Gurston, Lydden, Goodwood, Prescott, Llandow, MIRA are all two hour + slogs with a trailer. It is like living in the anti-centre of hillclimbing and sprinting.rustybin said:
