Already posted ref the handbrake cable, but thought I would let you guys know about temp. yesterday
Drove 300 miles this weekend around some some very windey Tuscan hills in Italy. Lots of hairpins and single track roads in convoy with 8 other TVRs.
Temp was most of the time at 90 due to 36 degree heat outside and slow driving in 2nd.
Every time heat got to 100 degrees, fans kicked in bringing down to 90 - 95.
Is this an acceptable working temperature? Did not overheat once despite some very tough going and hot hot hot outside temp?
My mate has wired switch into his Chim for manual override but is this really necessary? Take it I havent done any damage driving it all day constantly betweem 90 and 100?
Thanks all - going to have a look underneath later at the dreaded handbrake cable situation......
Will let you know

can you connect a laptop to the ecu? You will be able to see what temp the fans are cutting in (according to the 2nd water temp sender that the ecu uses).
Soumds like your cooling system is working ok but would be worth investing in a cooling chip from spitfire4v8 on here (aka Joo), should calm your nerves if you have to run in slow traffic on hot days.
Do the laptop check first to make sure the standard cooling system is working correctly, rather than applying a fan override mechanism as a remedy for an existing problem that needs to be fixed.

Had my Cerbera for about four / five weeeks now - bought it with a leaky rad which we whipped out and had repaired..the core was new they had left the packing off the fan cowls so they rubbed through the rad!...replaced the heat sensor / otter sender and the two bleed valves in the water manifolds as part of the intial fix...the fans cut in between 95 and just below 100...Soumds like your cooling system is working ok but would be worth investing in a cooling chip from spitfire4v8 on here (aka Joo), should calm your nerves if you have to run in slow traffic on hot days. stuff appears to working o.k. on the cooling front...the car pops and bangs for England...and has been set up too with new plugs -shimms done - blue coil pack ..set-up so should be fine and all appears to be good.
Now question is I have just purchsed a 450 cooling chip off Joo..
1.How do I fit it (is it the same as the 14CUX ecu I have in my 430 chimaera?) Not seen where the ECU is yet guess somewhere in the footwell...what is the process...any tips?
2.What are the likely consequences?...I have no idea if the car has been re-mapped...certainly make loads of noise...be a shame to loose this effect
, I understand that this is the way to go so that the fans start to cut in around 85 ....and assist with potential hot start problems as they cut the fans out below 4K revs?thanks in advance

You will find your ECU in the passenger footwell behind the carpet section. Unplug it (and whilst you are there check that it is all nice n dry), remove the top of the case, simply remove existing chip and replace with Joolz chip. Careful not to bend pins. 1.how do I fit it (is it the same as the 14CUX ecu I have in my 430 chimaera? Not seen where the ECU is yet guess somewhere in the footwell...what is the process...any tips?

So when Joolz did a cooling chip for me he copied my old chip and over wrote the cooling stuff so as to apply his mod.
There is an argument that you shouldnt need the cooling chip mod at all ie fix the actual prob if there is one. I also found 'wetter water' helped. I am not aware of any hot start probs being addressed (or existing at all).
Steve .. there should be some instructions and a printed picture of the inside of an ECU to help you fit the chip. The hot starting isn't an issue but what I do is prevent the fans coming on until the engine is doing more than 400 (hundred) rpm, that way when trying to start a hot engine you aren't powering the fans until the engine has actually fired up. If you have a marginal battery it might just tip the balance in your favour, but gazzab is right in that there isn't a generic hot starting issue, it's just easy to do that change in the chip whilst correcting the fan temps so I do it anyway.

Thanks for this Joo,Received the cooling chip today thanks v.much
The paperwork is with it stated...hopefully get it fitted this weekend, sure it will lower my stress levels over engine temps and help her along this summer.

Got my chip arriving this week ( via e-bay).
Does anyone know ( Joo?) if it does anything other than sort the fans?
I'm slightly worried as the cars been faultless since I bought it 4 months ago (Except the running hot / over reading temp guage) - its not going to make any other changes is it?
Cheers

AFAIK it only changes the fan settings but it uses standard engine mappings so if yours isnt standard then you will lose these mappings.
Thanks Gazza - as far as i know the car hasn't been remapped. It is a very late 4.2 though (2003), and the engine number seems to indicate it is a 4.5 engine

I guess so long as i don't destroy the old chip when i pull it out, I can always put it back right?
Has anyone tried this themselves yet - is it fiddley?
