Thieves strike, the S fights back...
Discussion
Hi all, hope you've been enjoying the great weather this weekend. I got my S back from TVR Fix and I must say that I highly recommend them after the very good work they have done for me. Thanks to all those who told me to use them. Their prices were excellent and Claire and Toby offered me all the advice I needed - even got a ride in their pumped up Griffith 500 HC...WOW. My S is now running so well and I'm really a very happy chappy.
Well I was. I walked up to the car this morning to see the passenger door lock open and then I could see the roof struts had been pushed down, ready to open the roof up. I saw this after I tried to start the thing (first time round didn't really register?!) - electrical power, fuel pump noise, turn ignition...nothing. After spending ages playing with fuses, wires, earthing ideas, distributor cap I came to the conclusion it must be the starter motor. Got the old breakdown people over (on a bank holiday too, feel guilty) and he freed the jammed starter motor. I'd tried pushing it forward in reverse gear but no luck. The car fired up no problem. Once he'd gone I noticed where the thieves had been in. I found one of the connectors in the steering column loose and reckon they tried to start it (and this can be the only way otherwise the starter motor could not have jammed overnight) but my S fought back and jammed herself up!!!! I can't believe it. My car saved herself from the filth that tried to steal her the moment I have her fixed. I'm amazed, it has to be fate right?
I had named her Lucy but maybe Herbie might be in better order...

Had a tip from my father who had his XR4x4 targeted a good few years back.
I have a chain wrapped around one side of the seat frame and then secure through the steering wheel with a padlock when not in the car - it's a good visible deterrant.
Even if they get the car running, they're going to have serious problems going round bends.
Only cost about a tenner in total - 2 m of chain & a padlock.
Stops any opportunist scum bag thief

Being a TVR I'm surprised it didn't give them a damn good kicking and leave them on the doorstep along with a note for the local plod.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.
Gerald TVR: I'll keep her as Lucy then...
