I have never been happy with the large front plate and although removing it altogether would be the ideal,I dont fancy paying out £30 a time for the privilige. Researching the subject I have found out that as the car is an import and also of the type not designed for a front plate I can quite legaly have a smaller stick on plate made up 380mm x 85mm which will be a great improvement.

Yes, but the police typically don't know the law very well and will just make sh!t up to please themselves...

You are quite right and on the website I looked at it suggested printing out the regs in case you are stopped as most police do not have a clue.

i might be wrong, but whilst you can have the smaller motorcycle size figures they do still have to be on a proper reflective plate.

Having said that i was never stopped with my small numbers stuck in the stripe

Here is the link and the plate size for imported vehicles is 380mm x 85mm instead of the larger 520mm x 111mm for UK vehicles.

Others opt for the standard UK car size plate but as a self-adhesive one to stick directly onto the bonnet/paintwork etc but did you know this type of plate is non-compliant too no matter how it is made (even road legal UK height font of 79mm). DVLA banned them all!!
no stickons then

here is what the dvla has to say.

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayo...

Also worth noting the penalties for incorrectly displaying a plate are much worse than not displaying one at all.

so you are better off paying the odd £30 for no plate than the £1000 and confiscation for using a stick on.

Not really because if you are a repeat offender and have been issued with a second fixed penalty notice the DVLA can revoke your registration.

I've managed just over 2 years so far without BiB attention. Half the time with no front plate, and half the time with an illegal stick-on.
Though it feels more comfortable to be semi-legal.

(Thanks Neil).

Although, having said that, where I live I can drive 50 miles and hardly see another car.
