Anyone recommend a half decent hotel in Edinburgh? Me and the misses are going down for a couple of days but not sure where to stay.

She is wanting to see a show at the playhouse at some point so close tothat would be good, if not, its not a huge problem smile

It's a bit of a trek from the Playhouse, but you could try Prestonfield

..and eat at their restaurant, Rhubarb.

The Rutland is very nice, or you could try the Chester Residence for an excellent serviced apartment if you want a bit of freedom. I've stayed at both and can recommend them highly!

Witchery for an expensive romantic night not to forget, Glasshouse for that boutique hotel feel, Malmaison out in Leith (bit far but nice restos nearby).

Le Monde on George St for something a bit poncey and different. Not too cheap though.

Previous suggestions of witchery, glasshouse and balmoral are good uns too though.

The Bonham ... it's the West end of Princes Street but not that far from the Playhouse at the East end.

The Glasshouse is right next door to the Playhouse and is highly regarded. The Balmoral is only two minutes walk away and is excellent.

Very good hotel, stayed here for 3 nights a couple of years ago and got a ridiculously good discount on laterooms, worked out at around £100 per night which was less than half price IIRC. No parking but you can park free on street from evening as long as you move the car first thing the next morning, multistorey just around corner.

ETA it's walking distance to playhouse and some decent restaurants/bars

Tigerlily.

No parking (Castle Terrace or on street parking).

A good balance between price and "coolness".

Tigerlily - I'm sure I've seen that somewhere before. Parking shouldnt be a problem as I'll be dropping the car off at the dealer.

Chicago's currently playing at the Playhouse. With Donny fking Osmond hehe

As mentioned, the Glasshouse is right next door, but be aware that they don't have a restaurant. Not that you need one in Edinburgh, but tis useful to know in case you were thinking of dinner in situ (they do do room service though and I *think* all of their rooms are "suites", ie they are a decent size, with table and chairs and stuff).

Well it gets my vote then, as the parking was the only thing that bothered me when we went. thumbup

This. I vaguely remember the Radisson is OK too.
